Ok heres my problem.

I have a computer conected to a home network. I will call this computer, computer 4
The other computers on my network I will call computers 1 to 3
They are all plugged into the same switch and everything works fine.

Computer 4 has dual LAN controllers

i have another computer, computer 5 (not connected to the network) that also has a ethernet port.

I am wondering:

1. Can I connect computer 5 directly to computer 4 (crossover cable?) ?
2. Can Computer 4 see both computer 5 files as well as the other network
3. Can computers 1-3 see computer 5 files
4. If the network is on the internet can computer 5 use the internet as well.

My preferable case would be that computer4 can see both networks, computers 1-3 cant see computer 5 and computer 5 can use the internet.

Is this all possible???

Thanks

1. Yes
4. Yes, you need to turn on internet connection sharing

Don't know about 2 or 3 since I have never done a setup like that.

What OS is running on computer 4? You may be able to set it up computer 4 a router... Here's some instructions to do it on XP.

However, that's a lot of headache. I'd recommend just buying a cheap switch to diasy chain off your current switch if you're out of ports. Or just replace the current switch all-together.... My $.02

One more nod for a new switch--if you are running out of network ports on your router this is the easiest thing to do to add more, I recently purchased one of ebay for about 15.00 specifically for GigE and I couldn't be happier.

I have plenty of avaliable ports in my switch. My main problem is that computer 4 and computer are 45m away from the switch. Instead of running another network cable through the house it would be easier to just link computer 4 and conmputer 5 (they are right next to each other)

The other thing I want (not sure if it is possible) is to have computers 1-3 not able to see computer 5. Only computer 4 will see computer 5's files. But I want computer 5 to see the internet.

I hope im not explaining it too poorly.
