Reinstalling XP on Parents COmputer

They have lost their Compaq Install key on there computer so i was wondering if i could just reinstall with a windows XP cd without all the compaq crap, would everything just work fine?

It should, as long as you find drivers for everything.

Compaq Actually puts drivers out?

go into device manager and jot down the names of the modem, nic, vidcard etc... if they have an old compaq cd it is possible to grab the drivers off the cd without actually using the cd to reinstall XP

You should be able to download all of your proprietary drivers for all of the integrated components on the Compaq website.....or HP..... whichever it is now Xp should install the drivers for all mainstream components with no problems

XP does a good job of finding drivers that will work.
