I was wondering if you either have to or "should" reinstall WinXP if you change out your CPU from a non-HT proc (2.0A) to a HT processor. Considering getting a 3.2C, and was just making sure I did or didn't have to reinstall the OS to get HT benefits. :D

No, just change the CPU (PC) type in device manager in the Computer section (first item in the list). Change the driver to "ACPI Multiprocessor PC."

When I replaced my 2.0A with a 3.0C, Windows automatically reconfigured itself for HT. To make sure that it's enabled, check if there are two identical CPUs listed in the device manager.

When I first got mine I tried changing the settings but it would keep going back to the old ones so finally i said fudge it and reinstalled xp. Now I keep an image of my OS on another drive and its like a 8 minute install, programs and all! YEAH!

Just received my new 2.8/800 and when my computer posted it showed that it had HT.

Checked device manager and sure enough there were two cpu's.

Works for me :) .
