Reinstall Windows?

I have a ummm... stolen version of Windows XP Pro (shhhhhhh don't tell). I'm upgrading my mobo to a 64 bit socket 939, new cpu 3000+ 64, and a 6600gt pci-e

last time i upgraded all this stuff i actually used a version of windows xp home i ahd bought and it gave me the error and said that i needed to verify that windows was really bought and crap. for some reason ti still said it was stolen...so i used the stolen version of pro to fix it :)

anyways will windows give me and error again and is there any way around reformatting my ahrd drive and reinstalling windows?
 
Your error is activation...install the XP home and call msft when it comes up. Also I notified the FBI.

pirated by my friend. anyways i bought 3 versions of home edition and now i dont even use 3 of them....

But the whole thing i need ot know is when it gives me the error that windows needs to be verified what can i do?

as you shoudl know with a real copy or not when you upgrad emajor parts of your computer, windows now requires you to verify that it isn't havign the hardrive flashed to other computers. is there anyway around this without installign windows freshly via reformat of the hard drive?

I didn't make the pirated cd. My asian friend did. he's awesome. i did it b/c the version of windows that i ahd was not a bootable cd at the time. it was only a image that came with a crappy emac i bought and it got currupted. long story short-----we needed the repair function.

I'm sorry that some of us don't have the money to get an amd 3700+ 64, 6800 nu, and all the other crap you got. Some of us teens have crappy jobs that barely ay for my current 3200+ barton, asus mobo, and 9600xt that i worked all summer to get.

I'm a teen with a crappy job (6.75 an hour, ~20 hours a week) and bought this stuff myself, and still have half of the money I earned. Don't go assuming things.

At the time I was 14/15 and I cut grass. I had no way to get a real job. Since thne I've bene rolling in the dough a bit more. Now I am getting a new DFI lanparty mobo. And for my B-day (april 3rd) my rents are getting e a cpu. and any money after that is getting me my evga 6600gt pci-e.

Call microsoft and give them the legitimate serial number and apologize, and they should hopefully help you.

That doesn't make it any better to pirate software. Keep working and save your money and buy things legally. Don't come around asking for people to help you with your illegal endeavors. You don't *have* to have a computer at all; it's a luxury.

You make it sound like people who can afford expensive 'crap' are just lucky. The vast majority of us paid our dues and worked hard to legally pay for what we use.

Take this as a life lesson, maybe grow up a bit, and move on. Have a nice day :)
 
Last time I went the legal route I did try to call microsoft like 50 times. I dead serious abotu 50 times. They gave me this crap about how my bought version was stolen. I was liek WTF???? Then when I attempted to reinstall my windows that I bought it kept saying that it was stolen. So I got fed up with Microsoft still nto helping me and I used the pirated version which worked perfectly fine. And I have bought 3 versions of windows none of which woudl install. All of them said they were stolen when I tried to install them on that particular computer. Only the pirated one worked.

It looks like your PC adventures have come to an end. Not everyone has made it as far as you, so don't feel too bad. Just take a long vacation and maybe give it another go in a few years. Just be happy with the fond memories you do have of this experience.

Glad we can help. At least maybe you learned your lesson from pirating stuff from the big boys.

If theres anything else immoral you need such as damaging your cpu so you can RMA it for a higher overclocking one, or doing the same to your video card, don't be afraid to ask! :rolleyes:

You forgot all the warez sites and keycode generators for popular games. Of course, that goes along with pirated OSes.

To the OP: If you don't want to pay for an OS, run *nix :)
 
Did you just miss the whole frekaing thread. I PAID FOR 3 WINDOWS XPS! 1 of the ones I had was on the computer when i upgraded. Microsoft maid me call them to verify that it wasnt stolen. They said it was. It WAS NOT STOLEN. Then they made my windows unworkable. I could boot the BIOs and nothing more. I used a pirated version to fix it. I swear. And I'm the Noob?
