Reinstall drivers for new card?

I'm switching from a 6600GT to a 6800 Ultra. Should I reinstall drivers or anything or just swap them out?
 
Can't hurt to uninstall. I would feel more comfortable with my computer that way. Thus I would first uninstall from the Control Panel, use Driver Cleaner to remove everything else, take out the old card and put in the new one and let Microsoft load the generic drivers like it does, and then finally install the latest officials from nVidia (or betas if that floats your boat). You probably would be fine either way but just to be on the extra safe side I would take the extra time to do this process. That way if any anomolies popup (although they shouldn't) later you can rule out a flubbed install.
 
Definately reinstall drivers

Try this
Driver Cleaner 3


1 remove drivers through control panel and any Oclk utility(ie riva tuner)
2 reboot into safe mode
3 cancel "found new hardware"
4 Run Driver Cleaner 3 (follow directions)
skip to 7 if new card is in
5 shut down
6 install new card
7 reboot
8 cancel "found new hardware"
9 install new drivers
10 may have to install monitor drivers
11 run coolbits(if Nvidia brand)
12 setup vid card through properties page
13 start fraggin!

Seems to me that if your gonna do a restall why not try doing the driver swap now. If something should go wrong (which it won't ) you won't have to do another restall. JMHO

Well I'm going to be doing a resintall next week anyway. And since I don't need this card until I get my new monitor, it can wait.

I'm not a hard core gamer, I just like to be able to run anything I want to play with a good frame rate and all the eye candy on.

Right now, my 6600GT does all I need for 1280x1024, but if I get the new 24" Dell LCD, I'm gonna need something stronger to push 1920x1200 so when I saw these Ultras going for $350, I jumped. :D

When I switch from one NV card to another, I never bother to swap drivers. It's the same driver for their entire lineup, regardless. If you're the kind of person who runs chkdsk with the surface-scan option, then, yeah, go ahead and reinstall the drivers.

You might want to upgrade to the latest drivers anyway, though, if your current drivers are out of date.

Any idea when the Dell's should be out?
 
I don't think it'll hurt, but like bsoft mentioned...they all use the same driver. Unless windows doesn't properly identify your new card, there should be no reason to. The 6600 and 6800's are especially close so I wouldn't bother.
I'd suspect that there will be some 7x.xx official/WHQL's on the way soon so just DriverCleaner then install those.
 
I believe the driver detects your card during install and does specific customizations. So I'd uninstall, put in new card, reinstall new drivers. Don't think you need to worry about driver cleaning or anything, this isn't an ATI to Nvidia migration.
