The Associated Press is reporting that the antitrust regulators at the Federal Trade Commission have approved Google’s purchase of DoubleClick.

Microsoft Corp. and AT&T Inc. have lobbied heavily against the deal, but the Federal Trade Commission gave it the go-ahead Thursday. The transaction still faces substantial antitrust scrutiny in Europe, and Google has said that it won't close the deal before it has clearance from European regulators. The European Commission has set a deadline of April 2 to complete its review.

Honestly, as much as I faulted the EU for going after Microsoft, going after the nitty-gritty many (not all) of the reasons that they do are sound. Most recently this involves Opera going after Microsoft for standards compliance in IE, pushing Microsoft to go more standards compliant with IE8.

And here we have two stories, the EU warning about Googleclick and the US approving of it. I'm beginning to side more and more with the EU and feel they're doing ultimately the right thing for the consumer- not just the corporations powering economies.

I dunno about you, but I feel that the EU is trying to give us surprise butt sechs without lube, and I live in the US.

They've made MS jump through a whole lot of hoops and then the citizens of Europe went "WTF? We don't want this crap! We'll just keep buying the product that you were already making!"

The EU are morons. The only thing they do is sue rich companies, especially American, so they can get more $$$ in their pockets. They don't give a flip about the people and if you think they do, you don't know politicians.
