I have a question about which registry cleaner is better to use. In the past I have used regseeker (Best free one imo.) but I was wondering about registry mechanic. I don't really know much about the registry and I mostly just use the clean up tool once a month to remove bad registry entries. Now my question is registry mechanic much better/safer and worth the $30.00 or should I just stick with regseeker.
 
A quick one that I like is CCleaner. It's not a heavy duty registry cleaner, but it is handy to have. It works with a right click on the recycle bin. The best ever is jv16 PowerTools. It isn't freeware anymore, unless you can find a copy of Version 1.2.0.181, the last free one that didn't timeout.
 
So if i'm a new to the registry and don't know what im doing, I just do a registry clean once every few weeks, should I get a free program like RegscrubXP, or would it be safer going with something like registry mechanic or jv16 PowerTools.
 
I have never worked with Windows Registry on my personal machines in a couple of years ... if there's something wrong with it, then it's time to reinstall ....

Last time I encountered a problem, was with a Win98 winsock problem ... so I went to the registry, and manually deleted all winsock entries. It's not so hard to work with the registry if you know what the problem is.

Having a program blindly doing something in the registry is scary. It can do more damage than help ...

Adaware can be customized for some deep registry cleaning, works well. However, there are alot of other registry cleaners that are specific to whatever problem you are trying clean up, like browser hijacking.

A good thing to do is to make backups of your registry when things are running well and continue to make new backups when you install new software or whenever your registry is updated.
