Regedit Another OS Copy's Registry?

Hey guys,

Basically, my sister got a virus that prevented her from doing basically anything on her computer, so she sent the HDD to me in Chicago, which I put in my computer as a slave. I ran Norton Antivirus, cleared about 10 viruses off, and things are looking good.

Here's the problem. I want to clear the registry keys the viruses added (Symantec's site suggests some), but I can't boot up her copy of Windows, because it has an entirely different hardware profile. I want to use regedit or something like it to edit and remove keys from her registry.

Btw, I don't want to send her back the drive with instructions on how to use regedit, because there's no way she'll understand.

Thanks a lot guys! I know you'll pull through for me, like all the other times.

Try running Ewido . You can choose to run a custom scan on her drive. It won't search the drive's registry but will defenitely render any of the bugs useless. This is a very powerful program and has a very high detection rate.

Thanks for the tips guys.

@phreakpiercer: Won't her copy of Windows not boot on my computer due to a vastly different hardware configuration?

@LoStMaTi: I already used Norton Antivirus Corporate, with the latest definitions. I am pretty secure that I have gotten all viruses on her hard drive. I'm just after the registry keys associated with them

@Qualm: Thanks for the program tip. That's interesting, I will look into it.

In any case, I decided just to move some files to a partition I created on her drive, and format the Windows partition. She'll just reinstall Windows on that partition when I ship it back to her. I didn't want to take any chances (since if I didn't get it totally right, she'd have to ship it back _again_), so she'll just have to reinstall her programs.

Thanks guys!
