Hello there,

I am looking for a laptop to replace my desktop and my budget is about $800 (after shipping and taxes)
Particular specs i'm worried about: 15 inch i5 processor, 7200rpm, backlit keyboard and maybe switchable graphics(if it doesnt matter with regards to doing alot of gaming and video encoding), intel wireless disply but thats the least of my worries since its still very new

Now alot of laptops at the stores here, futureshop and bestbuy, dont have the backlit keyboard so i check on ebay and found mainly alot of hp pavillion DV6t Select Edition that have been refurbished having alot of great specs

So is it safe to buy those at all.

I wouldn't buy a laptop on ebay unless it was from the retailers ebay store and it had a warranty. My last refurbished experience was pretty bad.

Well the particular 2 i'm looking at are from the same store and both have the 90 day warranty with the option of extending through HP's website.

IMO, new laptops are for rich people. They depreciate in price too quickly and replacement parts are much too expensive to be worthwhile. The new screen that costs $400 when the laptop is released might be $75 after 6 months ~ 1 year; the price of the extended battery might drop by 50%.

As long as you have a warranty with the manufacturer, you're set.
