Has anyone bought a refurbished iPod from apple.com? According to the site they're fully tested, cleaned, burned-in, blah blah blah. Basically I'm concerned I'll get a perfectly functioning iPod with a scratched housing/screen. Any input/opinions would be appreciated.

The ones I have seen look almost new besides maybe some light scratches on the back mirror panel.

Usually very light though, nothing major.

I bought a second gen Nano iPod. No physical blemishes and no problems I could tell for over a year. I even bought a refurbished iMac G5 for my mom too. Again, no problems their either.

Oh, I even bought a refurbished Canon 20D, no problems.

In general as along as you are buying your refurb from a manufacture you will be ok.

They're better than new. They take ones with problems (or returns) and check them more stringently than they do with new ones, and sell them at a discount.

I almost never buy refurbs because I like "new product smell" but I have no hesitation recommending them.

Sounds like refurbs are probably the way to go. With the pending announcement from Apple would it be a good idea to hold off the purchase of a Touch or Nano?

I've bought refurbs before from Apple, that's the really only way I will buy things. This laptop and a couple of iPods were all refurbs, worked flawlessly.

I've been using a refurb iPod Video 30GB for a good 2 years now. Never had one problem and it takes some abuse. I use it primarily when I am mowing lawns and in my car.

Just got a 24" iMac refurb for my parents, and it has been rock solid. No complaints here, although it's a pain paying tax for online purchases...something I am going to have to get used to until I move to a different state.
