Refurb Vid Cards Worth It??

I have seen refurbished video cards for sale for much lower then the new ones. I can get a 6800 ultra refurb for less than 300 bucks. Does anybody have experience with buying refurbished cards? Is it worth it or just a bad idea?
 
If it was DOA, then its better than new, cause its been fixed and tested MANY times, if it was just a return from an unhappy user, well, at least you know it works?

Some of them may be returns from those who return if they dont OC well and such, but thats a minority...

So why not?
 
As long as it comes with the full warranty and all of the accessories you need to make it work, go for it.

agreed, but if its refurb, its probably only got a manufacturer warranty or a 90day form wherever :(

the serial wont tell the manufaturer its a refurb ;)
 
i know, thats why i said, hes only got an mfr or 90day on it if its refurb, unless its from some company with a shoddy warranty

refurb are 100% assured to NOT be DOA, thats the point of refurb, it gets tested, tested angain, and again, and who knows how many times before its shipped back
 
I wouldnt risk the hassel and troubles of buying a refurbed.I definately wouldnt bother with a card that good.

Newegg ti4200 refurb, was messed up on arrival. sent back and got jacked for restocking fee.

I haven't bought any video cards, but I have bought 4 motherboards refurbished from NewEgg:

Abit BH7
ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
ASUS P5AD2-E Premium

They all arrived in perfect condition and work to this day.
 
I just bought another leadtek 6800gt for my SLi setup and its refurbed. Ill see how my experience goes....

Refurbed and used are the same,a refurbed is a used. It might be dead because of a bad flash,or it mabey it just didn't overclock good enough for the previous owner.

I got a dead refurbed MOBO and sent it back and didn't get charged any fee from New Egg.

Did you get a new board sent out (b/c thats free normally I think) or a refund (where they normally charge you a restocking fee)?

Did you have to bitch or they just gave you your money back no questions?

I think it cost me like $15, between shipping and maybe 15% restocking fee or whatever it was. :(
 
exchanges are free.. like if you get another card instead or tell them that it's broken and you want it replaced. in both cases they're sending something back, and you'll blow like 5-10 bux on shipping to send it back to them. I'm thinking that the people that had to worry about restocking fee didn't know newegg's policies too well or didn't call in. I've called newegg every time that i've had an issue, and have never had to deal with any restocking fees.
Once I actually replaced video cards 3 or four times because i couldnt' find what i wanted (none were dead cards). I didn't have to deal w/ restocking, but spent a good many dollars on shipping.

to answer your question, I prefer new, but refurbished prices are often too good to pass. Having a person fix it just isn't the same as it coming fresh from the machine.
 
i guess that makes sense...maybe i will wait later this week for the 7800 gt..that looks prtty sweet....:D
 
I ordered a motherboard and a video card refurbished from newegg. The motherboard came complete with everything in the box, but the onboard network card was bad. Abit cross-shipped me a new one and I was pretty happy because I only had a few hours of downtime. The video card I got (9800Pro 256mb DDR2) ran ok for about 9 months, then it started to flake out. Being well out of warrenty with newegg, I RMA'd it to Sapphire which too for ever and the card they sent me back was bad, I had to wait over 2 months while they sat on their asses to ship me a card that finally worked.

I don't think I'll ever buy refurbished from Newegg again. I did it cause I thought I could save some money but instead I ended up paying the difference in RMA and shipping costs. I'll save up for a little longer and buy brand new next time.
 
well lets hope refurbs are good from newegg cause i just ordered 2 vid cards from there.. 9600pro AIW to replace my 6800ultra i just sold :(
 
NO... the only reason it is refubished is because people return them, and people return them because the graphic card is bad and it probaby won't overclock very high, or has lots of problems when overclocking and mostly because it is problematic and will be problematic again soon, or they have poor performance.
 
You should only consider buying refurbs if the item value is 60% of the original brandnew one otherwise stay away...
 
well, I have a refurbed x800pro. It works/OCs fine. I have a refurbed DFI nf4 UT, same thing. Refurbed twinmos SP, same thing. 2 seagate HDDs, one didn't work right, money back + shipping cost back= me happy.
 
I have a Refurbbed 6600 and my A8N Sli is refurbbed. Both work and overclock like champs!
 
I tried to save money and got a refurb 9800 Pro from New egg. it has a problem where Windows never sees it as a AGP card, so the AGP slot does not work.

Moral of the story - PRODUCTS GET RETURNED FOR A REASON. Never ever buy a refurb. It's not worth it when you get a bad one and have to sit around waiting as a result.

The RMA is back at new egg, but I already know they cant replace it becuase it was the only one they had. NEVER AGAIN.

I went out and got a X800 XL and I'm getting on down now...only new from now on
 
Buying refurbs is a gamble, but I've had good luck so far. 2 mainboards and 1 videocard, 0 issues. Video card was a 6800GT I got last month for $210.
 
lez say you bought something for 200 dollars + 8 dollars shipping, when you return it iz 30 dollar restocking + 8 dollars original shipping + 8 extra for your own shipping ouch. Thaz the risk of refurbs lol

I don't know where this misinformation is coming from, I've never ever paid a restock fee with a refurb. The only time you pay one is if you don't request a RMA in the required amount of time newegg sets (2 weeks usually). If you guys really knew what you were doing, you'd request a RMA from the manufacturer, and get a completely brand new card.
 
I got my Leadtek 6800gt just today from newegg, minus missing game (which i have anyway) and an obviously opened before box, this card seems to run BETTER than my brand new 6800gt.
