What the title says... Refurbished LCDs: Recommended?

I'm looking at Newegg (if they ever get any in stock) and the Dell Outlet (or other places, suggestions?)

Bet you anything those will have a 90% stuck/dead pixel rate. It'll be less than manufacturer's standards, but still I'd expect most to have 1 or 2.

I had a Samsung LCD go bad and it was replaced with a refurbed model. The original monitor had no stuck/dead pixels, but the refurbed one has about 7. This was a direct replacement from Samsung.

To me, it would depend on the warranty and exchange poilicy.

AVOID

The Monitor is the most expensive component of the PC and the one you replace the least. Its generally a bad idea to skip on the monitor. I would really recommend that you buy new.

Don't get me wrong Refurb is great for other things, but not monitors.

Exactly. If you can get all your money back and w/o much hassle, then go for it.

I bought a Refurb NEC LCD1760v from NCIX computers in Canada. I saved 150$ off sticker price, still get a warranty, and it's been perfect.

NO dead pixels, no issues, there were no visual defects. It's a factory refurb, whatever was wrong with it first time around, has been inspected TWICE now, and fixed. Refurb was almost better. Same product, but 150$ less. thats not skimping, thats common sense!

I vote nay, just because most are going to be returns for dead pixels or something.
