(SOLVED)

I just upgraded from winxp 32bit to win7 64bit. Everything seems great and all that...however..I just stumbled into a large issue I see many people having after poking around google search...

Somebody please tell me there is a way to force a refresh rate for a specific resolution for windows7 during gaming....

The nvidia forceware drivers used to have the ability to enable the "tweaks" to force a refresh rate, but the win7 drivers do not have this....Apparently all the utilities that used to work in XP, do not work in win7 either.

I use a CRT and normally I run a 170hz refresh rate in games, but I am stuck at 100hz right now unless I make my desktop resolution the same as my gaming resolution before launching.

If I cant fix this, Ill be uninstalling Win7 and going back to WinXP.

EDIT: The way found to fix this is just creating custom resolutions for the res and rate you want. This seems to fix it.

You can't just use the nvidia "add custom resolution" to set up the custom refresh rate for the game?

EDIT: OK. It looks like the custom resolution thing does work. WO0T. Thats fixed. Thx

I also have another serious issue I just became aware of, I use custom riva tuner profiles for my CRT cause the gamma is way too dark in games otherwise. For some reason, the custom gamma that works on the desktop, isnt applied to the games. Sob....another issue to try and fix.

I've always set display setting in the individual game.

What do you mean? In some nvidia app? Or you just mean, you change the gamma in whatever game it is? Obviously I do that. Games like, TF2, or I should say valve games, the gamma has limits. I raise the bar to the very max, and the game on my screen is still close to black, not playable. For the past 8 years or so ive relied on rivatuner to changing my gamma in valve games. :p

Ya other games its not needed cause I can actually raise the gamma an unlimited amount, stupid valve hasnt learned.

Just controls in the game itself. I was really just mentioning that I don't have an answer for this problem... But now that you mention it, Valve games are darker than others. :)
