Refresh rate or fps limit?

Hello folks. I would like to know what is better for smoother gameplay. Limiting fps to 30 with RTSS and enabling vsync with tripple buffering or enabling 1/2 half refresh rate vsync in nvidia inspector. Or is it the same end result? Also should I be limiting to 60 fps on my 60hz monitor or 62? Apologies if it is not in the right topic and thank you in advance.
 
I'm not sure the proper answer to your question, other than higher rates are better. This video does a good job explaining how it all basically works and a new improved tech called GSYNC that hopefully makes its way into the mainstream:

In my experience I've had better results using half refresh rate over frame limiting to 30. I've found limiting it to 30 added heavy microstutter in the games I've tried it with.

If you have vsync enabled you really don't need to limit the frame rate in many cases. In some cases limiting the framerate to 59 will help with input lag. But Unreal Tournament 3 was the game that I've personally had that experience with.
 
If you have a 60hz monitor - I'd shoot for 60fps if you can. I, personally, can't stand anything under about 50.
If you have issues with stuttering, an FPS limiter can help. Just set it to 60 in most instances. It seems to make a difference in a few games (Half-Life 2, Darksiders, Far Cry 2, etc.) because the game has a refresh rate that is a tiny bit off from your actual reported refresh rate.
Running a game in windowed full-screen fixes many other games as that apparently uses your desktop refresh rate, which is a true 60hz.

Turn down the settings until you get a (near-)constant framerate that matches your monitor's refresh rate.

If you're insistent on cutting your framerate to 30, half-refresh rate should be available as a normal option in the NVIDIA Control Panel under V-sync options.

Always enable triple buffering either way.
 
I have quite decent pc .And only far cry 4 and ac unity does not have constant 60 fps. So I thought limiting fps. Also games like dragon age origins and few other have pre rendered cutcenes that are 30 fps. It helps for immersion imho if gameplay and cutscenes are the same frame rate. Also at 30 fps I can downsample from higher resolution and I'm using x360 controller 99% of the time so input lag is not that noticable I think.
 
Some games have little or no stutter tearing like Warface and Crysis online both run really smooth on my 60HZ Intel Rig even with a High Refresh monitor if you move really fast in some games it's not going to have clarity.
 
Far Cry 4 and Unity are both system killers so you probably need to turn the details down a bit. You'd be surprised how often you don't even notice the difference between high/ultra yet the game might perform 20% better. Turning AA down and shadows down are often very easy ways to gain performance without sacrificing details.
 
True enough. I only use post process AA like smaa or fxaa because litle to no performance hit and it helps with temporal/shader and foliage aliasing. Though I build pc like 10 months ago and can't sustaint smooth 60 fps on new games is a bit of a letdown.
