I had an old RAID bay with 5x 1.5 TB HDD in RAID 5. Something messed up, and I was unable to recover the information. I think my computer lost the RAID controller. This was years ago, I do not want the information anymore.
Anyway, I am now trying to sell the individual hard drives. However, when I plug them into a dock, and try to reformat them, it shows the capacity as 5.45 TB and will not format them.
How do I format a HDD that was once part of a RAID? I do not want to re install the raid controller. I do not even know the order they were once in.

my experience with intel raid (on board) controllers is that you have to deraid the array from the motherboard controller first, then you can format them individually.

From my knowledge you had to use diskpart and run a "clean all" against the disk in question. This is a well documented result of Intel RAID and I have sadly been victim of this with a broken RAID0 array and the single disk reporting the capacity of the whole array.
