Reformatted Disk Data Rwcoverable?

I recently had a HD read problem in XP and had to reformat the drive. however I did try to use software to recover all the data.However after recovering and reformatting the drive I discovered that some files did not get recovered or may have been unrecoverable. My question is, can data still be recovered even thought the drive has been reformatted?
 
Yes as long as it was a quick format and no data has been written to the drive.
 
Happened to me last night... thank GOD I was able to recover all... I think ;)

(Bangs head) Damn it! I dont know if it was a quick format (because a friend help me do the recovery and data has been written to the drive. Am I SOL right now then?
