Anybody confused on which HD7950 cards are reference? So many HD7950 cards and I'm not sure which is a reference.

If I get one I want to get a reference one to put a water block on it.

I don't understand, half an hour ago you gave this advice to someone else..

Do your self and the all of us a favor and just be patient and forget about buying a HD7XXX series card till the prices come down or a better deal in the 28nm flavor appears.

There is most definitely a "reference design." However most AIB partners were given the time and were encouraged to come up with custom designs.

No, those are not reference cards.

THESE are reference cards. Easiest way to tell is by the blower fan (squirrel cage fan) instead of a normal axial fan.

So they stuck a different heat sink on them? Or did they totally change the lay out of the PCB?


If i get a HD7950 I want one that I can put a water block on. Do you think a water block will fit on the MSI or Sapphire that i posted a link to?

Wait until manufacturers put out waterblocks and then see what cards they say are compatible. Practically nobody has any blocks or 7950s in their hands yet. What do you expect people to be able to tell you? If 90% of the cards on market on launch are non-reference, how likely is it that waterblock makers will make blocks that will only work on reference cards? Unlikely.

The only reference boards are the AMD branded boards with the squirel cage fans, and they are not for sale. They were review samples.

All the others have been tweaked.

Some are probobly closer to reference than others.
