I am building a server of sorts and I am looking into some PSU's for it. I want the absolute best power supply I can get. I first took a look at pc power and cooling's stuff and it seems that they don't make any redundant PSU's.

What are some good psu's in this range of things? I am thinking dual 500+ watts would be very decent. The only one like this I could find on newegg was a no name brand, so the power to the rails is worrying.

Go on eBay and watch for offerings from Zippy/Emacs. Redundant power supplies really don't get much better than these beasts.

3rd Zippy\Emac
however research what your buying
what standard is it conforming to
does your mobo require +12V auxillary per the EPS12V spec (8 pin)
how many +12V rails are there are they common plane or split plane
ect

best to look at the mobos recommended power supplies list
(your likely to find a Zippy listed) but use that to determine the spec you need then look for a compliant redundant
Zippy will make one but on ebay it would be real easy to buy an older one as well
(like mine) few redundants that are EPS12V will be on ebay

not much, in a split plane each CPU gets a dedicated rail
but be aware of any supply that is simply compatible not compliant
it would have either a single or possibly a double +12V rail, a compliant PSU will have at least three +12V rails

EPS12V Table 6: 12V Rail Summary
........................................................................................................................................................................................
Common Plane System........................................................Split Plane System
+12V1........Processors.........................................................+12V1........Processor 1
+12V2........Baseboard components other than processors.......+12V2........Processor 2
+12V3........Drives and peripherals..........................................+12V3........Baseboards and components other than processors
...........................................................................................+12V4........Drives and peripherals

if you dont see amps listed for each of those rails, its a pretty safe bet its not compliant
