I'm looking for three fairly quiet, redundant, ATX power supplies to use in small servers. Single processor quad cores, 2 SSDs, 16Gb memory, external drive. Noise is an issue. I've had full Dell servers in two of the offices since 2008 and the occupants aren't all that happy with me. I'd like to make amends since they're due to be swapped out.

I've found these choices so far:

Any recommendations?
Thanks

2008, now we are 2014... Max warranty on our servers (all Dell) is 5 years, we switch them to backup then. We have a new rack-server since 1.5 years and it's much much quieter than the previous full-tower models.
Sorry, but you just cannot keep those servers as primary servers!

We place our servers in a different, not heated, but vented room and every sound/heat issue is solved.
For enterprises, stay with OEM hardware. We have a tech solver (don't know the English word) that works for a lot of different companies and he came to the conclusion that Dell has the best service/products for enterprises. We never got a server fail within their 5-year warranty (the earliest was after 8 years and it was the PSU that crapped out). And drives that failed (because they always do) were replaced within a few hours (even in weekends).

Don't mod OEM hardware, something WILL not work.

I didn't clarify that these are going to be custom whitebox servers I'm putting together. Not modding the OEM Dell servers. I'd actually stick with Dell servers if their SSD pricing wasn't ludicrously high.

Save yourself a pita and just let them buy a good Dell server...
What are you using the servers for? You can always add some SSD's in the system and remove them when they need service or whatever.
Seriously, we considered building our own and came to the conclusion that it was just plain stupid to do.
You will save 25% when building your own server-grade server, not worth it and you don't have service.

Please clarify what they will be used for and why you would need SSD's in these servers.

Multi purpose servers. Hyperv, print, domain controller, file server, label database. Actually it's 1600 to build and 3208 to buy dell. No more hds in my servers that aren't backup targets.

You are starting your own nightmare.

Ask anyone that works with servers often and they will all swear by OEM.
1600 for parts, many, many hours of research and building and your price is also 3200$ for a system without warranty (most important part about a server!).

Good luck with whatever decision you make. Maybe ask some questions in the Data storage subforum or in General hardware.

I used to be in the same boat believing in OEM all the way. Still do for mission critical stuff that demand guaranteed parts availability. I'm confident in supporting these small servers. Decided to just stock an identical power supply as a spare part.
