Reddit, the site famous for subreddits like /r/holocaust, /r/racist, gonewild, nsfw_girls, watchpeopledie and homemadexxx, has decided to start start cracking down on abusive comments.

Because of this, we are changing our practices to prohibit attacks and harassment of individuals through reddit with the goal of preventing them. We define harassment as:

Systematic and/or continued actions to torment or demean someone in a way that would make a reasonable person (1) conclude that reddit is not a safe platform to express their ideas or participate in the conversation, or (2) fear for their safety or the safety of those around them.

If you are being harassed, report the private message, post or comment and user by emailing [email protected] or modmailing us; include external links if they are relevant.

This is such a load of nonsense. The only reported case of so-called "personal attacks" were on the Reddit CEO Ellen Pao, because she's a horrible person, and Reddit isn't happy that she took the reigns.

And guess who is pushing this so called "anti-harassment" campaign? Ellen Pao.

So at least call it what it is, the "censor negative commentary about Ellen Pao campaign, because I'm not going anywhere BITCHES!".

Sadly its been linked that SJW feminists is behind this according to the info dug up by people on 8chan. Trying to make another social media outlet pro SJW feminist friendly.

You don't see anything broader at work here? This is all about one woman?

Well, you know who Ellen Pao is right? She's that woman married to an openly gay man who is bankrupt after being busted in a fraud case, and when she was fired for incompetence and constantly stealing credit and latching herself onto successful projects already underway in order to claim financial reward, she made up false allegations of sexual harassment in a high profile case.

She happened to be good friends with the ex-CEO who went full retard (throwing a hissy fit when a global Reddit management community didn't want to move to SF) and so he put her in charge before he quit. Reddit hates her, and was exposing all kinds of dirt on her, which of course all ended up promptly deleted and purged, until alas now she is pretending that she's changing the site for an anti-personal attack because Reddit asked for it... what a load! LOL!

The one thing the Reddit community actually CAN agree on is that they want her to step down, and that's what she calls "personal attacks".

One woman who happens to now be the CEO of Reddit. It sure as hell isn't coming from the reddit community, as you can see a 2000+ thread talking about her along with any other discussion about her getting deleted.

Reddit polices itself, as only the most positively liked threads and comments come to the top, and negative ones that the community doesn't like are buried and comments become invisible.

So pretending this is about "popular opinion" is nonsense, as they are deleting popular material.

My point is, you think Pao is spearheading this push towards political correctness and it has no bearing on anything other than the discussion of her personal issues on that site? I find that hard to believe.

So...Reddit is ruining the point of Reddit. Unsurprised.

there's a watch-people-die subreddit??

She's also ugly as fuck. You left that out.....m'lady. ;)

Well, that's what I'm saying, I don't think its about political correctness.

I think she's just trying to put a foot down and show that she's not going anywhere, she runs Reddit now, and anyone who doesn't like it is going to get banned... not just thread deletes but bans.

Pretending this is about political correctness is just a mask and moral justification for her personal goal in protecting herself, because otherwise she'd not only be bankrupt but literally unemployed... I mean, who else at this point would hire her, knowing her marriage of convenience to a lifelong gay (not bisexual up until he met her) man who made his money in multiple lawsuits citing racial discrimination, surely coaching her in her sexual discrimination lawsuit, that's been busted for fraud and bankrupt. Think about it, I mean if she loses the Reddit CEO position, that's it, it's over for her as the curtain has been pulled back and there's too much dirt on her.

Her only real hope is to latch on to the SJW movement, put a bunch of SJWs in positions of authority at Reddit, and protect herself that way. So don't get me wrong, Reddit is going to suffer, but I really believe its all just sparked by her self-interest and will snowball from there.

Holy shit I am never going to Thailand after a few minutes in that Subrebbit.
Avoid all of SE Asia then... their car culture revolves around thunderdome rules. Locals know better than to cross the street at a crosswalk assuming cars will stop. They won't. And just stick to the right parts and be respectful and you'll be fine everywhere else. Over half of the country's GDP comes from tourism, so they protect you like a golden whale.

I'm glad I'm somewhat oblivious to the politics of internet sites (to some extent). I don't mind that reddit can have some messed-up stuff on it, that's the beauty of the internet, but if/when reddit goes to crap because someone in power wants to greatly profit or twist it because of self interests, then another site will come along to take its place. Let us not forget the great migration from digg to reddit.

You really think the point of Reddit to behave like the worst person on the planet? There's already a place for that. It's called 4Chan.

I thought reddit was 4chan for people who can't spell four?

Oh, the outrage that you can no longer post things there that you can't post here.

To me, Reddit is an absolutely unrestricted place for discussion, where people can discuss whatever they want to discuss without any regulations that dictates what can and cannot be said. A place where people can voice their opinion no matter how offensive it may be to certain group of people, or individual.

4chan on the other hand, is a place for the kids to be malicious just for the sake of behaving that way.

The moment you place a rule that says you cannot be offensive or abusive, then you are basically restricting the the discussions to saying "nice stuff" only. Because whenever you voice a negative opinion, it will always be perceived as offensive or abusive by certainly people, such as those on the receiving end of your criticism.

That's exactly what I thought it was, too. Just didn't feel like I should have to explain the obvious.

Reddit has become a cesspool not far from what 4chan was at its peak and still is. The massive political and social censorship biased toward liberal ideology was the final straw for me. Wont be long before Reddit goes the way of Digg and something new pops up and we repeat this stupid cycle all over agian.

Yeah. You haven't been using Reddit for very long. Anything and everything will get censored if you piss off the wrong admin or give the site too much negative attention as a result of what you post or submit.

Same as always. Nothing has changed.

I just use Reddit for porn honestly. RedditP + Realgirls/GoneWild/GoddamnAnythingIWantToJerkOffTo and i'm set.

I have never understood why people will sit around and complain about someone else's company not doing things the way they would. It is their company, they can do whatever they want with it and if they upset/piss off customers, they will leave. The fact is nearly anyone could build an alternate for reddit.com as it is very basic and run it the way they want.

In short, quit bitching about it and start your own alternative....

Wrong, which is why Facebook and such social media sites are worth billions and billions of dollars. You're not paying for a simple stupid website, you're paying for access to the community that built a home there.

1) She didn't create anything, the community did, and she has just walked in to a very successful site trying to screw it up.
2) Organizing a mass exodus onto a new host is not easy, ask Google with their Google+ competitor.
3) There is no harassment/abusive comments problem on the site, as all threads and comments get voted on for visibility. If its not a thread or post that is popular, it won't be at the top and will fade into nothing, or in the case of comment get too many downvotes and in short order be invisible. Illegal commentary always resulted in a delete and ban anyway, so this is purely about all the anti-Pao harassment she is trying to stop.

Its just a lot easier to try and change the story and try to convince people that when SHE is being attacked its not about her, its about Reddit attacking all of womankind. So with that narrative she'll surround herself with SJWs she puts in position of power and try to change the face of Reddit.

You know nothing, John Snow.

Is there any actual proof that Ellen Pao personally instated this policy for her own benefit?

I'm snide at times, sarcastic, cynical and I partake in the occasional political debate. Yet I've never had a post censored or been banned. I always suspect that the people who complain about heavy-handed moderation are predominantly just assholes who vent their frustrations anonymously on the web and then get upset that people don't want to take it - erm, I mean, 'grow thicker skins'.
