Reddit has banned nude images that are posted without consent...which pretty much means all of them. :)

No matter who you are, if a photograph, video, or digital image of you in a state of nudity, sexual excitement, or engaged in any act of sexual conduct, is posted or linked to on reddit without your permission, it is prohibited on reddit. We also recognize that violent personalized images are a form of harassment that we do not tolerate and we will remove them when notified.

Taking the remaining fun out of it.

They already have some major political censoring going on by their jackbooted staff. Perhaps we'll see the re-emergence of Digg.

How does one prove they have permission on the internet? This is completely unverifiable either way in a digital context.

It's sad when it takes "Jack Booted staff" to make these boys act like men for once in their lives.

It's like going into a biker bar and yelling at them for smoking and tearing up the place with their riff raff. WTF?! There are some places that are like that. Just a different lifestyle. Boys acting like men? Welcome to the playground. Don't force your "man rules" on boys. Because your "man rules" seem like child rules to some others. Don't like it? Stay out of the bar. You created the bar? You fucked up somewhere. Rules are fine and dandy, but saying these men are acting like boys? Go check out some Tumblr sites and come back and give a report. I expect a lot of curse words, some of which are banned here.

Now, reddit doing this, I'm fine with. Their site, their rules. Under pressure from potential lawsuits, etc., they have to watch their ass.

If you're posting nude photos of yourself, doesn't that imply consent? That probably means /gonewild will be OK, as in that you have to post a verify pic (your username on a card in front of your body).

As an angry fat feminist, I can just sit there all day with a myriad of email addresses telling them to take down pictures of me, even when the picture is of a celebrity porn star.

How would they otherwise possibly verify anything?

Retarded.

When the Bikers drag people into their bar and beat the shit out of them the men come and put them in prison. That's what consent is about, it's about nudes of other people. Well, let's be honest, nudes of women or girls, being posted by the men or boys they used to go out with. Hell hath no fury like a man-child scorned and all that.

What you don't understand is men own the playground, you can be removed. You don't want to live by the rules of a civil society, fine. We will remove you from that, as well. Eventually your online conduct is going to be treated exactly as seriously as your conduct everywhere else.

These petulant little brats on this internet had better grow up. Fast.

If you think you can 'civilize' the internet...........I don't even know if there's a word for how much you just don't get it.

As much as I enjoy and use the internet daily, I am glad it wasn't around when I was growing up...I would have never left the house:D

Glad we have men to tell everyone how to act and how to be men.

I can't agree with that. I can see rules to a point, but they shouldn't govern how people act. If I want to act like a child without breaking any laws, I can. If people see me as a fool, so be it. Yes, my online conduct will be treated the same as everywhere else. That's fine.

A biker isn't going to conform to your jacket and tie event because you said it was mandatory to be a man. Too many various people out there to conform to what you think is a man or your rules of conduct. I KILLED IT AND ATE IT!!!! REBELS! WHOO HOO!!

reddit's choice is there's. That's fine. That is their playground. But, if I wanted to make a site that had a lot of misconduct and BS, I could. As long as I didn't break any laws, we could tell fart jokes, post pictures of poop and barf, and make stupid jokes. Or be complete assholes (Fox News does it....;) ). There is always someone telling other people that their conduct isn't acceptable, etc.. But, those ones are the ones I feel more comfortable at. They aren't super strict and conform to the general rules and aren't sterile feeling. (Look at GenMay vs. HardSteve vs. other forums if you can).

There are a lot of people that call themselves men. All with their own set of rules and conduct. Just because you don't fit in with one group as a man doesn't mean you can't fit into another group of men. It's like dogs. A chihuahua is still a dog..... ok, bad example. A pug is still a dog, a manly dog. But, he's no German Shepard. Is he any less of a dog? No, he's still a bad ass pug that will sneeze in your face when you least expect it and your mouth is open. Manly dog.

As long as I didn't break any laws...

Well that's the whole point, isn't it? Revenge porn and non-consent posting of nudes is starting to get attention around the country, and there are a few states with laws against it already. I can foresee it being legal throughout the US in no time.

Reddit is simply trying to stay ahead of the law to prevent themselves from landing in legal trouble down the road.

It's a completely understandable and reasonable rule.

According to the law in the U.S.A., whoever took the photo owns the copyright, and the owner, of that given photo. Not the subject.

entire countries and cultures are not "civilized" by merkican standards, let
alone the internet.. Good luck with that.

That being said I don't disagree with reddit, the beauty of the ball field is one can
take their bat and ball and go the eff home if they don't like it.
Or beat someone with the bat in protest.

And the Clueless Person of the Day award goes to.... *drum roll*... Twisted Kidney.

Does he even live on the same planet as us? Or do the clouds of self-righteousness that cover the base of his pedestal in the moral high ground prevent him from looking down on the real world?

Yes, reddit is doing the right thing. They are covering their ass. I'm in agreement with reddit on this one.

According to the law in the U.S.A., whoever took the photo owns the copyright, and the owner, of that given photo. Not the subject.

That's not necessarily true either. Vampire Weekend was sued by the subject in a picture used on one of their albums, because she supposedly didn't give consent for the photographer to sell the photos. She won that suit.

keyword, *Sell*

That's not the full extent of the law. Copyright law in terms of photography is much more complex than "photographer owns the copyright", like you state. There are a myriad of issues of privacy as well.

And? That doesn't necessarily give them the right to use a subjects likeness in a public display or performance, or to publish said items even if the photographer is the owner of copyright. It comes down to expectations of privacy when the picture was taken, commercial use, and public good.

You get a picture taken of you while in a public place, and it is published as news... you don't have much room for arguing.

Taken in private without a release and published on a monetized site? Call a lawyer, without a release you have significant standing for a number of complaints. Just what those are vary greatly with location of the incident.

That being said, liability accrues to the publisher in general, which is why reddit is getting all nervous. They could be called the publisher enough to get sued, and they can be sued in lots of locations. Even if they prevail, they will have to spend lots of money.

Again *monetized*

And, it doesn't mean you will win your argument, just means you have an argument to make.

Again, see the entire paparazzi/tabloid magazine industry. Or the photos Beyonce (or any celeb, that found 'x' unflattering) tried to get 'removed' from the internet.

And it's funny I linked Gawker there, as their shitty sites too rely on all this as well.

Sorry, can't edit. If what you guys are all saying is illegal, actually was, then these sites/industries would never have been able to become as prominent as they are.

Whether you FEEL they should be or not, is a different matter.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!! OH WHERE SHALL THEY GO FOR THEIR PORN????? THINK OF THE CHILDRENS!!!!!

There is a difference between posting tabloid pictures of someone in unflattering attire and posting nude pictures of someone that hasn't consented to those pictures being posted.

That's your opinion.

The nude pics of celebs taken, then sold to and constantly published in tabloid magazines says otherwise.

And I guarantee it will be opinion of the rest of the US when laws are made against it, my guess within the next decade. It's already started in several states. Tabloids never gave the issue much exposure when it was limited to a dozen celebrities, but now that it's rampant on the internet, it's going to gain traction.

We'll just have to wait and see. Until then, what I said remains true

Which is what you wanted to refute in the first place.
