I'm looking for some kind of red water additive for my upcoming system. Normal green anti-freeze would completely ruin my color sheme (red lights, red inner-case, all red mobo, GFX card and RAM..) so I need something to match it all.

However, It *can't* be something online. I have no CC to order with. I need something household/DIYS or something from an auto store that will help cool and kill anything that trys to live in my system. Any suggestions?

Where do you live? Can't remember the name but I think Zerex is red and can be had at the auto parts store.

zerex is most definitely pink.

I think your best bet is trying to find some sort of dye for the water, or maybe some orange/red antifreeze.

Are you by chance using UV lights as that would make it a lot easier?

red food coloring + distilled water (NOT de-ionized) add some stuff from the pet store to kill critters if you think its necessary. The less non-water crap you put in the better it will cool. Antifreeze etc cools LESS well than pure water. A few drops of Redline water wetter from the auto parts store will reduce the surface tension properties of the water therotically reducing the "boundry layer" effect and helping cooling a bit. After looking at the price of the stuff I deceided it was not worth it /shrug. No idea what color it is, might be red, but I would not use so much of it to turn the water deep red, use the food coloring for the color.

Ok, so I guess i'll just use some red food coloring...but what can I use to kill things in my system? I heard bleach is a no-no...so what household chemical would work?

Well, I didnt want to say it for fear of getting flamed but I have never needed anything when I used distilled water but I dont have a side window. Most critters need light to grow. However I still dont understand how anything could grow if everything is clean and uncontaniminated and the system is filled with pure distilled water and buttoned up immedately.

The grocery store should have a gallon of distilled water for less than a buck. Dont open it till you are ready to use it and after you fill and have all the air out, use the rest to top off car batterys. Dont save it for later, get a new jug when you need it. To beat a dead horse, make sure it says Distilled, de-ionized etc. is not the same thing. :D

That is an interesting thought as many people don't have that problem. My personal opinion is that the bugs get in to the system through the non-aseptic techniques many people use to assemble their systems. Like spitting on the tube to get it over a barb, bugs that fall off your skin into the system, using an h20 source that is not sterile, or simply contamination prior to using. I think when you combine that with lights you get action ;)

Thats just bottled water, right?

Alright...but what is "de-ionized"? What would it hurt if I used it?

BTW, Top Nurse, I am currently UV-less (at least inside the case), but if I even stick some UV in there I'll just change out my water.

On a related topic -- can anyone recommend some red UV dye that looks, well, red and not pink?

and on another note, ALOT of online places accept money orders and stuff :D

On a side note ;) You can get rid of all water borne organisms by putting into your loop an aquarium UV sterilizer. :D

Zerex is "super racing coolant" or something like that. Wouldn't they sell that at Autozone/Advanced Auto Parts or Home Depot?

You can get a debit card if you want. That usually works just as well as a CC online. And all it takes is a checking account.
