The dev's have gave the ok for beta players to post their screens (just not of any bugs) and impressions of the game.

Here'a a VERY detailed preview from one guy, it includes details over many of RO's new/added features aswell as screens/videos. A good read for those not familiar with the details on RO: ostfront or how it's different from the mod.

Well - most of you have waited patiently... some have waited impatiently But here it is - the formal announcement of the release date. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 will be available for download via Steam from 11am Pacific time (2pm Eastern, 7pm GMT, 8pm Central European) on Tuesday 14th March.

We'll be seeing you on the battlefields of the Ostfront next Tuesday!

Sweet! I can't wait :), going to be a blast.

Who else here is getting it? Already got mine pre ordered and pre-loaded, ready to go.

Hmm, I'm actually on the beta for it. "Evolutionary" is the best word I can think of to describe it.

Yay Valve, way to take a great free mod and turn it into a cash cow. Again.

well essentially ur paying for the engine, because even tho RO is a free mod you need a copy of UT2004 to run it in the first place.

Valve provides the distribution system for RO, that is all. Tripwire developed Ostfront commercially on their own.

Ostfront is probably capital building so they can really take advantage of their UE3 license later. I can't begrudge them wanting to make a bit of money off their hard work, even though I am very burnt out on RO and not too enthusiastic about Ostfront.

 I can't believe that they are going to charge for a game nobody played in the first place.

sigh, why even bother, the ability for people to actually read up on something seems to get thrown out the window.

RO:eek:stfront is NOT the mod.

After they won the Make something Unreal contest and such it was decided they would try to make their own company/get in the developing world.

Ro: Ostfront is their retail game. It uses the UE2.5 engine (RO used 2.0).

You can see their trailer here:
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/redorchestraof4145/downloads/

They have many many additions/changes/etc to the game.

Just to name off some of them:

1. Leaning
2. Diving (no dolphin diving, just diving to get out of the way, you can even dive out a window if you must, but too high and you'll hurt yourself)
3. Crouch sprinting
4. Resting guns on surfaces. So you can rest your rifle on a window seal and it helps with your aiming.
5. Hiding/popping from cover. A la vietcong and such. You can duck behind some cover and pop up into iron sights, then when you let go it takes you back behind cover.
6. Gore, you have limb loss, etc now which wasn't present in the mod.
7. Supression system for mg's. So now when you use an mg and spray near someone they get blurred a bit and such, which imo is a good thing because the mg's lost a lot of things by not having anyway to actually supress people.
8. Manual bolting, IE - when you shoot you only rebolt once you want to. This is good so snipers, etc can see if they hit their target and then bolt when they want.
9. Interruptable animations. So if someon erushes you with a bayonet unlike the mod where you were pretty much "dead" unless you had a bullet/aim on them or your bayo ready aswell, you can quickly stop doin something and revert to hitting them if you need to.

Why did hardly anyone play RO?

Well for one, it was a WWII realistic mod that needed UT2k4, which is something a lot of WWII/sim fans might not like.

Just looking over at the RO:eek:stfront forums it's got a LOOOOOOOOOT more people , already pre ordering it, etc plus clans from other games making a move over to it.

updated with new beta impressions/screens/videos, should be good for all of you complaining about it just bieng a free mod :p.

I do believe I'll be all over this one. It looks to be a bit like BF2 but in WWII. Maybe it'll actually work better... :D

I'm pretty sure they already made a WW2 based Battlefield game. I hear it was kinda obscure though, so you might have missed it.

I've just started looking at screenshots and it reminds me of the first COD a lot, which is a good thing!

Gotta look at more.

I just watched the trailer and started pre-purchasing it before it was even over. :p

IMO it defiently is.

All I have to say is some of these maps fucking PWN!

Haven't played but maybe an hour and something, but most of the time was spent on the map, RO-Rawice (i think that was it's name).

It's a huge open airbase, soooooo many sweet spots on the map, lots of variety in where to deploy/fight, etc. There's also a tank for each side on the map, so it's mostly infrantry with a little vehicle.

Here's some screens:

This game looks pretty interesting. Can we get some more comments from ppl who have played it? How much more different is it from say CoD2 multiplay?

Are those screenies taken at max settings?

Yea, everything is at the highest. Only I have HDR bloom turned off, plus no AA (As you can tell).

Remember, this game is still using the UE 2.5 engine, which isn't really that new of an engine and it doesn't make use of all the newer shaders and such that newer games do.

However if it does well (i'm really hoping it does) then they are goin to make use of their UE3 engine :), which will surely have some very very nice graphical effects lacking in this one.

Eh, I went into practice mode and I dunno...the running animations of the players for example. Looks like a mod. The sounds are cool, and the tanks are sweet for sure. When you get into a tank to drive you hit next weapon using the mouse wheel and it rotates between looking throught the view slot, and opening the driver hatch and looking from that vantage point.

I'm kind of having buyers remorse, but I need to give it a shot. Haven't gone into a mp server yet.

I bought it (Loved the UT mod) but now I cant even install, it says their servers are too busy.

i hate how a lot of people are complaining of bad graphics...

they have to remember its using an engine thats over 2 years old...and i mean, everyone saw the screen shots before the game came out, what more did they expect ?

i'll be buying this game for sure as soon as i get the money or for my birthday, whatever comes first

I never played the Unreal mod, and I assumed this was an updated version of the original. I saw the trailer on their website and said what the hell it's only $20. Well with that $20 I could have gave it away to bum on the road. So far this game is a pile of dung in my opinion. The graphics are crap, the gameplay is crap, and most of all the movement speed and animations are a joke. I have a feeling that this is going to start a trend of if you like my mod for XXXXXX game then pay me $20. I felt like I got burned when I bought DoD:S because I thought it looked cool too, but this is a new low. I won't buy another game through Steam unless I can try it out first.

From the responses I'm not to convinced yet. I love CoD2 so I'm not sure if I'm going to spend the $25 to find out if I like the game or not.

I run all highest settings @ 1280x1024 and graphics look good. I don't even know why people bother to comment on them given it's UT04 in the first place.

Anyway, to the stuff that matters... gameplay is addictive and immersive.

Out.

I think this game is great, definitely worth the money. This game isn't for ADD FPS gamers.

Does it play more like Raven Shield or Battlefield 2? I love tactical games that are realistic and focus on group coordination rather than run-and-gun. I don't mind the graphics, I just don't want to shell out $25 to find that it is another rendition of Day of Defeat.

Raven Shield, althought it is very unique. My friend asked the same question and it really stands alone. Its the most realistic shooter out today, bullets even richochet.(or at least MG tracers do) If you like tactical games this is the game for you.

Do not forget cannon rounds too. I have seen quite a few bounce off thick or angled armor and go zinging over the heads of infantry or into the dirt. They will take out anyone who is hit by it. The artillery model is well done too. As a squad leader or tank commander, you can use your binoculars to designate a target location. Then someone, either you or another team member, calls for the strike via a radio on the map. Being an infantryman on the receiving end is quite terrifying.

I've never played the mod, or UT2004 for that matter (UT1 was the last one I played lol), and judging from your shots, it seems to be like Counterstrike.

I.E. You die, you wait for reinforcements which is like every 30 secs or so.

True?

In Counterstrike, you have to wait for everyone on a team to die before you can play again (or for the bomb to go off or be defused).

It's more like DoD (AFAIK) with the reinforcement system you mentioned.

yes but unlike dod, reinforcements are not endless. you will eventually run out of respawns and one team will kill the last man and claim victory.

Really? Damn, I haven't played CS in that long?? >.<

lmao whoops. :p

The graphics are nice, how can you bash it from that angle? No MP fps has significantly better graphics. Not to mention it whoops source's ass up one side and down the other.

The game is nice, except I have trouble finding infantry servers. The tank maps are simply not as fun.

Red orchestra IMO is a totally new kind of MP fps. I bought it yesterday thru steam , and ive tried to get the pace of the game , but i found it hard... very hard , especially to get around the map ...

Strong point to the game is the built in game VOIP (very clear) , lots of customization , the game runs smooth , very very smooth , even at high graphics .

Most people who will hate this game , im sure they dont teamplay at all , you cant be good at this game all alone .

for people who hate the graphics , turn off bloom effect... this way it will be better... and it will look less like a painting.

overall opinion? i really cant say its bad , but its different , its a love of hate type of game i guess

There's this game called Battlefield 2. There's also this game called Call of Duty 2. Both have better graphics than Osfront.
