Red Dead Redemption 2

There are a fair amount of RP servers for RDR2 these days. I've not played online in awhile but they let the RDR2 online game just die basically with no new missions etc.. No real train heist missions or bank robberies. Tis a real shame but Rockstar tried like crazy to monetize the online game from the start and that killed it. Along with hackers/crackers invading people's games.

Its good to hear there are RP servers RDR2 / RDO online play at least, but its really unfortunate they aren't updating it with new missions or content. I remember reading that Rockstar basically didn't even try anything early content wise but rather was disappointed that RDO's first "battle pass" wasn't pulling GTAO Shark Card levels of profit, so they didn't even try to cultivate it properly. I wonder if the RP servers are mod-friendly in the way that I read GTA5 / GTAO online play can be, where whole new created assets, missios and other content? if so, maybe it could at least go some way to making up for Rockstar dropping the ball, if there are enough modders who want to create new content including stuff like you said, train heists and bank robberies. If the modding tools don't permit that kind of depth and content to be added though, that would be unfortunate. Still, its good to hear that people are still playing.

RDR2 and maybe RDO are on my backlog, but while the base game will always a coehesive experience, its a pity it hasn't (at least from the sound of it) the online version hasn't benefitted from Rockstar's continued support and content.

You can also basically ignore bounty

I'm pretty sure I never paid for a single one for the entire duration of the game.

I just killed and looted anyone who attacked me. Honor bar was pegged at max the entire game.

For real? How did you get away with that, since if I did that, my honor bar would be pegged to the far left? 😂

I don't want any trouble... so now I chase down anyone that says they're calling the law and I either convince them otherwise or accidentally kill them. I'm still trying to get the hang of all the buttons.

Recently bought the game and have just started playing for a few weeks. Game is beautiful but I'm seeing 100s of youtube videos of all this crazy side content. I don't think I'll ever be able to see it all. Another thing that's confusing me is all the reference to "chapters". Either I'm just being obtuse and can't see it, but where do see which "chapter" you're in, in the game?

For the solo game I want to say chapter progression is from the 'story' tab in the start menu.

It has been a minute, but from what I recall the chapter beginnings/endings are based upon major events and moving from one place to another. You start off in the snowy mountains of the west, you then go to the great plains, the wooded/swampy deep south, etc. etc. Pretty much every time your entire camp moves, that's a new chapter. There's nothing keeping you from exploring those other locations early, though. I think you can go to all but 1 or maybe 2 locations whenever you want.

I finished the main game quickly and missed a lot. Later, when I played as John Marstow, I went through everything and even finished the best in the west...I'll have to start over again.

See, crazy, so much to do. I didn't even realize you can play as other characters.

As Arthur you can visit prostitutes (I missed that too) but as John you can't because he has a wife so he kind of gets away with it...except in one cut scene when one of them gets him hooked and they try to rob him.
When you play as John there are also several missions, quests and cut scenes.

one thing that really helps early on in working on the challenges. dont try to get them all right away but do 3-4 for each. you unlock gear at the trapper like bandoliers for extra ammo capacity and holsters so weapons get dirty slower. earn a lot of dead eye/stamina/health exp. it also unlocks little perks like double herbs when picking.

first half the game is more upbeat than the second half so i like to do a lot of stuff chapter 2 and 3.
kill the legendary buck early to craft a trinket for higher chance at perfect pelts, legendary gear isn't that great but, the fence can craft trinkets after every legendary kill for like 10% less dead eye usage.

wander around and explore beyond where the game takes you, help some people and they give you tips to rob places, otherwise you cant without the tip. it wll get you some of the best weapons early on. always smoke 1 premium cigarette after picking a pack so you can pick up more and pick up cards for more dead eye exp. stop at random camps, half will chase you off but other half give tips. random people will posion you and leave you for dead. another maybe rape you? its not clear but that what it seems like. someone will steal 20-25% of your money and you never get it back. everything is a risk. fire bomb a KKK rally.

a few trinkets, a few free things, a few unlocks of better gear and more dead eye all make the rest of the game much easier. too easy really

easy stuff early on to get for free
Lancaster repeater (rob) during the day talk to the kid in rhoads gunsmith basement window, then save him, gun is in basement
Schofield revolver (rob) doctor in valentine, i forget the trigger, either watch the back door for shady stuff or help a lady between valentine and emerald ranch for the clue to be able to do it. maybe borth ? rob the back room and escape quickly to avoid a high bounty.
Volcano pistol (free via saving someone snake bite, can be any gun really) east of horseshoe overlook kinda towards rhoads, after a day go back to valentine meet guy you saved outside the gun store he offers to buy you anything.
Gold bar ($500) in the burned down settlement south west of horseshoe overlook, sherifs office.
use the money to upgrade the guns and you are set

the game has action but it is more of a outlaw cowboy sim. all the non action is slow pace. i play RDR2 as to relax or time filler because i can just wander around for 20 min and enjoy myself, maybe grab one perfect pelt. it might not be your syle of game but for its style it is truely a masterpeice. i fear no game will ever be as good.

you can grab a save game file to skip chapter 1, or skip chapter 1 and tutorial missions. there is little reason to go though chapter 1 more then once or twice. its good for the story but not for repeat play thoughs.

small but huge QOL mods, varmit rifle lets you get perfect pelt, no need to use tiny arrows for small animals. law enforment rebalance. it downplays minor things but makes major things worse. way less WTF sighhhhhh moments.

terrain textures overhaul is nice

some mods break the game story (thing wont trigger or spawn ) with the 3 i suggested there is only 1 spot with issues. you might think the game is stuck while you are in a saloon it just takes 2-3 min for the event to trigger. just stand there and it will happen. everything else is fine.

This and Cyberpunk are the two games I've owned for a while and started a few times, but never really delved into. Performance for the visuals I wanted was never quite there. Now with a 5090 and wrapping up Stalker, I think it's time for RDR2. Glad I waited. I know this one is special and I'll probably end up putting 200 hours into it.

As the icing on the cake, remember to force the latest/transformer model for DLSS in the Nvidia app for it

Game looks spectacular

RDR2 was a slow start for me but is now (of course) one of my top 10.

3.5 hours into Cyberpunk & I have NOT had any fun yet.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Become The 4th Best-Selling Game of All Time

In its latest report, Take-Two Interactive revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million copies, becoming the 4th best-selling game of all time, only behind Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Wii Sports...

Impressive. I knew it was selling well but didn't think it was selling that well. I suppose GTA5's continuous profits overshadow any talk of RDR2.

Like GTA, I think there's a huge number of casual RDR fans. I have at least 2 friends that literally play nothing but GTA5, RDR2, and Skyrim. They don't know the first thing about 99% of other games, but they keep going back to those 3.

I 100%'ed RDR2 - but I would slide back in for a leisure lope around the map if I get pretty graphics or maybe a new quest or two.

I just bought this and Cyberpunk a few weeks ago. Both are installed. Going to start one of them soon.

With RDR2, I despised the first few hours. They try to introduce too many mechanics at once and most of them aren't really even important. They also fail to mention how you should be using auto-aim and that trying to manually aim borders on impossible. At least with a pad. I bet I started and stopped playing it 3-4 times before finally forcing myself to keep going. Things finally clicked around the time I went to Strawberry.

I need to give it more time as I've heard it was amazing, but damn if that intro isn't boring as hell.

I have both. Obviously, both are on opposite sides of the spectrum, but both provide exactly what I need. CP for my love of sci-fi and RDR2 for providing a pseudo-historical feeling with relaxing prairie rides.

Resumed CP after aboht 6 months off from it, just about to start CP Phantom Liberty. This game is a masterpiece. Among the very best video games ever made.

Holy crap... I just finished Arthur's timeline in RDR2. John's timeline is BORING.... I hope this gets better.

John's timeline is there to wrap up any side quests, mess up folk in the Southwest/TX/AZ area, have a friendly chat with Micca, and visit some graves.

One heck of an epilogue.

Oh, and don't forget to finish up giving the old lady all yer dusty bones.
