Red CCFL?

Haven't seen any myself, but I pulled this from my Sidewinder Computers newsletter:

Coming Soon
Logisys Cold Cathode Light Kits will be coming to Sidewinder Computers next week! Many of you who have seen most red cold cathode lights know that they are really closer to pink than red. Take a good look at these. Red cold cathodes that are actually RED! Matching CCFL fans and Thunder Liquid Light kits will be arriving on July 7th. Expected Price will be under $6/ea.

I, too, posted this very same question AFTER buying "red" CCFLs from SVC. Mine were VERY pink. They shouldn't be called red, and red shouldn't be listed anywhere near the description of them.

That being said, if you want them to be a REAL shade of red, let me know. I can hook you up with soem red vinyl (sign vinyl used to make case appliques and truck lettering) that you can apply to the bulbe to make them red. VERY red. LIVE NUDES red. Some people have used taillight repair tape, and I tried that method too. I didn't like the results because it made the light a kind of milky red. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but it looked aweful. Not only that, but it took 2 layers to get the pinkness out.

Here are pics of my REAL RED CCFLs:

As you can see by the mousepad (which is lit by 2 red LEDs) you can't get a redder red than by doing what I did.

I just wrapp them in red serain wrap, just wrap it till it is the red of your choice. Altho the red paint is a much better and a more permanent method.

JEEVES

The PC Toys one looks solid.

I have the PC Toys one too. I wouldnt call it red though. Its more of an orange I think. Still, at least its not pink and it looks decent.

buy some red dulpicolor anodizing spray paint and paint the acrylic tube that the cold cathode bulb is in with it, it is traslucent paint and will create a coating that will cause the light to show as red. spray the stuff in 3 light coats otherwise it will be uneven and look blotchy.
