It's freakin pink! No no no...I mean VERRRRRY pink. As pink as pink gets. The word "red" shouldn't even be NEAR the package.

Any way to make em redder? I was thinking red marker, red dye, red plastic, dipping em in something...i dunno.

Red monokote- look at your local hobby shop in the airplane section. Transparent stuff, obviously.

Red saran wrap- lots.

why wouldnt it work? just wrap it around the cathode! If you dont mind buying another light just get a couple of neons (not cold cathodes) cuz they are more red... Infact get that lighting light

get a neon...

i cant even being to tell you how many times this has been posted

most "red" CCFLs are pink... period

get a neon... neons = red

I had 2 neons in there. But they were HUUUUGE.

I know its been posted a bunch, but I never stopped to read the whole post to see what people did to make em redder.

can i kill you now? or later? ;) :p

Well, as they ALL say...the search is borked. I did search through a few pages to find the answer before asking at least!

I had the same problem a while ago. I fixed it with a roll of 2 inch wide red brake lens repair tape from a local auto parts store. I cut a piece of the tape that was as long as the CCFL, and wrapped it lengthwise around the CCFL. The "pink" red CCFL is now truely RED.

you can get red masking film thats meant for professional printers (and what the quickmask mode in photoshop is based on) that is a nice dark red and is sticky backed, shouldnt be too hard to find from your local print shop or staples or somewhere :)

One variety is Lith film, there's generally two varieties: Amberlith and Rubylith.

That's generally a little more opaque, though...There is a variety that's pretty transparent/translucent, both come on a sheet of acetate.

Shops that sell print house supplies, drafting supplies, and even some of the larger art supply stores (Dick Blick and so on) ought to carry either of those litho films.

doesnt some of the ccfl companies supply red housings for the ccfls now? thought i seen one or two coming with red outer casings now.

Yea, I got some SVC branded CCFL's a month or so back, the casing's colored sort of an orangish-red.

I actually haven't gotten around to hooking it up yet, but I'd imagine it'd be a warmer variety of 'red'(or somewhat rough approximation of it in this case), or maybe more like orange..it's fine with me in any event.

I know that SVC had colored their blue tubes bluish as well, to give the light more of a deep blue cast to it, as opposed to a cyanish-blue-green.

I was dissapointed with my cheap CCFL's too...they make my "red white and blue" case look gay as hell. Needless to say i dont use my cold cathode anymore. Oh well, 10 bucks down the drain...they are too bright anyway, can't handle it when I am trying to sleep.

I had to add2 layers of that "taillight tape" that was mentioned earlier. A single layer made it peachish, and the 2nd layer meade it reddish.

I'll post pics a little later.

its not pink....its lightish red

Why do people even bother buying red CCs anymore? No red CC looks red. They all suck

Just buy some White CCs and use some red gel papers (the theatical ones that go over lights). Just wrap them around the CC and you have a RED CC

hell for that find some nice bright white lights and tape em up.

The ones I got turned out to be orange. I don't use them anymore. I got some lazer leds and they bright up my entire case and are actually red.

are the current SVC ones lamps electronics rebadged?

Anybody know if the PCToys ones from SVC are anything other than pink? I'm actually looking for orange, not red.

use your heads guys, red sharpie...:)

i bought a 6" and a 12" dual from SVC, and the 6" was blood red, and the dual 12, was gay pink... go figure.

The red sharpie crossed my mind, but I thought you'd be able to see all the "brush" strokes, so I scrapped that idea.

The red taillight tape worked very well, even though I need 2 layers to overcome the pinkness.

That sucks about your 12", I heard SVC brand was actually red. Did your 12" come in clear tubes, or red tinted tubes?

I've been in close contact with SVC regarding this pinkness, and they said the tubes should be tinted red to help acieve the redness. The tubes ARE tinted red, yet they are very pink.

I've already fixed them, so it really doesn't matter at this point.

I think maybe the tubes should be tinted blue or green, to naybe give them even MORE of a deep color.
