are we doing this right, y'all? we place a high emphasis on team spirit and aiming for / keeping the #1 spot -- clearly that's a huge motivation for all of us, but whatabout prospective people?

I'm not sure if these people are just mean or if our recruiting methods are turning people off, but take a look at this thread...

We all should be handling this without calling names. Name calling is just going to hurt the teams image, and could result in less new people.

Just state why you fold, how it's fun etc. when people post negatively about F@H or UD.

i guess that would have been the best way to handle it, it's just challenging to not get mad when people say stuff like "you folders are just full of it" / "doing it for your e-penis" stuff like that. especially when these people have no idea of the losses our community and its members have sustained. it makes me sick.

Ah just remember, when you get one like that, that doesn't understand why we fold, remember this, he runs something far worse, 3Dmark. ;)

Perhaps somebody could just come up with a blanket statement that could be cut and pasted into these kind of threads?

Something that (a) Describes the benefits of folding. (b) Describes how little user effort is required to assist in progressing medical research that we will all benefit from. (c) Subtly (yet verbosely) describes how much of a total dick the offending party is, without actually using the word dick or similar :D (d) is a good advert for the [H]orde and gets us a few new bunnies.

I think you just volunteered.
:)

Tee hee, I was going to try and come up with one when I wrote that post, but my head started to hurt.

I'm on nights tonight, so I'll try and come up with something tomorrow when I get up. ;)

Forthy that's a really good idea. Having a set statement that would explain it to people would certainly make defending folding a lot easier, but I also think it would have nice subtle message, too: your anti-folding opinion is totally inconsequential - have a form letter :D

:D You owe me a keyboard

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

Sometimes it's hard to explain to people why we DC, but we're very blessed to have the work of some skilled and passionate poets on hand to help. relic and some others have put together some verse that I have loved for quite a while. Point people here if you have trouble explaining, and if anyone here hasn't had a chance to read that thread, I heartily reccomend it.
