Is it possible to recover data from a hard drive that was in another computer? Is it possible to insert a drive into another computer and it simply run? If not, what process do I need to implement in order to recover information from the hard drive?

Yep, just plug it in (as a slave for pata) and boot up. Should be accessable in my computer as the next available drive letter.
