I lost the key for a 3 user version. I do however have a backed up image of two systems that have it installed. Both have bugs and had to be reinstalled and now I need the key.

MS help desk says I will need third party sw for this and did not want to talk more. So what is up ,is it out there some where?

Is it possible from the backup image on WHS I have? Thanks for any hel[p you may offer.

Registration info is stored as an encoded byte array in SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\DigitalProductID. You'll have to extract the SOFTWARE file from your backup and mount that hive in regedit. If you can get that registry value's data then you can retrieve the key.

What format are the backups in? You'll have to either restore the backups, then use a keyfinder; or you can attach to the backup image and open it, then use something like Nirsoft ProduKey that can read from remote/attached registries.

The image is a backup by WHS VR1 in whatever format it uses.I can restore the whole c drive and then have it search it I guess.
