Well I recently went on a trip and took alot of pictures which I would love to have back. my gf's sister found the format option and thought it was to change the format of the pictures... well long story short, pictures have been formated off the SD card. The camera was a Canon A430 and the memory card was a SanDisk 256MB SD card. I've tried a bunch of programs for recovery already and none seem to work. I've thought about going to a data recovery shop to get the pictures back but don't want to spend $95 (yet) if theres a cheaper way to do this. Any help is much apreciated!!!!!

How long did the format take? Just a couple of seconds of or did it actually go through and wipe the card? If it took 30 seconds or more, it's a good bet that the card got wiped and you're hosed :(

If it went quick, it probably just rewrote the file allocation table, and the data is still present but with no file system. A good data recovery program or pro firm will have no sweat getting it back. If however, it actually overwrote every flash cell on the card with a full format which would obviously take quite a bit longer, the data is gone never to be read again :(

as long as the deleted data is not over written you can usually restore them. so, if you keep the SD card, undisturbed, meaning not using it to take more pics or save or edit any pics in it, you can recover them using data recovery programs. in that case, google is your friend. here im giving you the links for 4 serarch results of such programs. i've yet to use any of them to recover image files from SD card so can't comment on there user friendlyness.

in a side note, while trying out the recovery programs to recover images, save the recovered images in ur hard disk and not on that SD card.

I actually had to do this exact same thing for someone, she deleted her pictures on her SD card, i used fiile scavenger to recover. the program costs like $50 or something like that.

I have recovered a lot of HDD's. I have charged my buddies $25-50 to recover their drives when they screw up partions or two of them accidently formatted the wrong drive when installing windows (I've done around 10 drives overall) and for that i save everything to my computer, and then format the original drive, put it back on....it takes about 2hours total. I have made my money back 10 fold.

Google file scavenger....excellent program.

Thanx for the suggestion. Should be fun to play with.

my memory card also died..

its a corsair 2gb mini SD which i had in my nokia n73. Just randomly the phone spat an error message saying memory card is corrupted and so i format it, and then suddenly its now a 966MB memory card

no idea why. and yes its a legit mem card and not off ebay. i have put more than 1gb of files on it before.

tried the above programs, but nothing can be found. i think all they do is look in the 966MB files partition and not the remaining part. Computer management in winxp can't find the missing section of the memory card either.

I have tried several programs including : PC Inspector, File scavenger, ZAR, Restoration

all to no avail

any ideas on how to recover my files?(images are the most important) or enlarge the file partion back to 2gb so that i can reuse these programs?

thanks
