Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
does anyone in this forum record music? just wondering because i am getting ready to buy a new sound card, but i was wondering if mac was preferred over pc for recording music. thanks
cory
Eh... At one time, the Macintosh was superior to the PC in capability, but the PCs have caught up in leaps and bounds since then. The only real difference you will find these days is simply the reliability of the system. I'm on my G5 right now and it has never crashed while I was recording. My PC is right next to my G5 and it has crashed several times. Both have ProTools and Cubase on them and I use both computers interchangably depending on what I'm recording. Do I prefer one over the other? Sure--the G5 wins hands down, but I'm a Mac user at heart. One of the guys I work with does the same stuff I do and swears by his PC.
Bottom like--if you're already a PC user, stick to the PC. If you're a Mac user, stick with the Mac. You'll undoubtedly be more comfortable with the platform you're already using, and without getting into the high-end pro audio realm, you won't notice any difference.
^ What he said. My pc based Sonar rig is rock solid; any problems I've ever had have been related bad vst plugins. With my Presonus Firepod audio io I get a stable 2ms latency (actually it will do 1.5ms but since I can't tell the difference why spend the cpu time), great for recording guitar with real-time plugin effects like Guitar Rig or Amplitube.
Another good resource for home recording would be Audioforums. For effects and plugins, check out KVR Audio.
Finally, imo it's best to avoid Creative and get a more dedicated card from the likes of Maudio, ESI (or Audiotrak), Presonus, etc. While most consumer cards nowadays have a decent output stage, the majority of those cards still do not have a great analog input stage; or just as importantly the correct impedance level for mics or band equipment. Also, the drivers for the dedicated cards are often more effecient and hardened against crash issues than those for general purpose or gamer cards.
