Whats the best sound card for recording(input microphone) price range 200 dollars and what specs should i be lookin at while picking one

For $200 the EMU1212M can't even be touched by the competition.

Max sample rate.
Quality (of course).
Bundeled software.
 
Good point, but I still despise creative so for me the emu would be a nogo, regardless of how good it is.
 
I don't understand.

If Creative had bought Aureal, would you stop buying Aureal products?
Do you boycott Grado products?

E-Mu wasn't always under Creative's wings, you realize. They make some solid products. Anyone serious about recording or playback would do wrong by not considering E-Mu just because it's now a Creative-owned company.

I despise creative because of their attempted monopolization of the sound card market, and FYI they do own the rights to Aureal's technology.
 
I use an Edirol UA-1s for audio input--it's an external USB device with RCA connectors. I was really shocked at how incredibly high quality the sound is for the price ($70) ... there is literally no noise no matter how high I turn up the input gain. You should check into this device--if you already have a sound card that suits you fine for playback and don't want to break the bank on a simple, but high quality input, the Edirol UA-1S may be right up your alley.
