Hello,

My computer hardware:

AMD 64 4000+
ASUS 7800 gt, 256 mb
ASUS A8N-sli deluxe
Maxtor 250 GB HDD 7200 RPM
1,5 GB RAM (2x512 + 2x256 corsair twinx)

I run WoW at 1680x1050 set to maximum quality @ ~20-60 fps

When I start recording with FRAPS, it's lowered to ~15-30 fps

What I wonder is if I need to change the whole computer in order to achieve a steady 40+ fps when recording with FRAPS at this resolution and quality? I have heard that if you buy a 10 000 RPM Raptor HDD, this will be achieveable. However before investing in a new HDD I would like to consoult with professionals.

i tell you what.. i run games at 2560x1600.. i also use fraps.. i have two 36GB Western Digital Raptors (10,000RPM) in RAID 0... so total drive space is 72gigs.. and this raid0 doesnt do a damn thing to teh frames!! i go from 60 frames to like 15-20 frames!??! lol... the only way i can achieve recording is if i drop the resolution very low.... like around 1024.. and record smoothly... besides if you record videos arent you gonna resize it anyway to put it on the net? atleasts thats what i think....

I find that very hard to believe. Experts contradict that?

Fraps eats up frame rates like the cookie monster eats cookies.

Basically the only way to up your frame rates it to either lower the resolution/quality of recording, I don't know if having 8800GTX, quad cores, 10k hard drives will do much even.

Just find the settings that you like that look good and record.
