Are there ANY reviews out on the Recon3d? CPU usage vs onboard, measured FPS in games, perceived and measured audio quality and output?

Any reviews putting it up against a Ti HD and/or a high end Xonar?

I can't find any reviews to save my life. Just interested in seeing what the audio pros think about this card.
 
It was like a month and a half ago when I read it, and it wasn't a complete review yet at that point, but they were saying it wasn't all that great. The main thing they said is if you already HAD an Titanium HD, you'd be taking a big step backwards. It also showed an additional chip on the card, from what I remember, and I honestly do believe that it is a PCIe to USB bridge. Or IOW I have a feeling that the Recon3D chip is first and foremost a USB product, just slapped onto a PCIe card for internal usage. If you've seen the bare card, you'll understand right away why I'm thinking that :p I've seen ASUS Realtek codec "sound cards" with more circuitry than the Recond3D cards come with!! (If you do get one, get the ASRock model [yes, ASRock], as it looks like they actually put some effort into the card)
 
Your X-Fi Ti HD should be sufficient. After all, you bought a sound card for sound and not for video, right?

Spend the money towards a graphics card upgrade. This will give you more of an FPS "boost" than upgrading your soundcard. Unless you have a specific need for the 'new' features (600ohm headphone support, FINALLY!) of the Recon3d, stick to the Ti HD, it's a great card.

Hell, OC'ing your hexacore CPU 100Mhz will get you more frames-per-second than upgrading your soundcard and it's free.

You already have the Titanium HD, forget about the Recon3D series. The two series' were made for completely different crowds. Ti HD will give you much, much, (give or take a few much) better sound quality for music and audio in general. They both have the same headphone virtualization technology. I'm not sure if the Recon3D series has X-RAM, but I know the Ti HD has 64MB of it so you can run full EAX on the handful of games that support it.

TLDR: Keep what you have and don't even think about it.
 
I concur with most of the prior posts, with the addition that XFI Ti's also have a Daniel K driver pack.

I don't know if he's still pumping them out or not, but if the newer ones don't have a driver source that isn't from Creative I don't think I'd touch any of them with a 30 foot pole.

PAX has been tweaking creatives drivers for a while now..

I didn't have much luck with his drivers the last time I tried them but he appears to have an installer now, which should make it a lot easier. The Daniel K set works perfect so I haven't had much cause to go looking for an alternative, but I'll add it to my list of experiments for the next time I do a reinstall.

That said, I'm not sure it changes my advice. Doesn't look like PAX is making drivers for the Recon3d yet, and if Creative is the only driver source I'd still stay away from it. A great card doesn't do you any good if the drivers make your audio pop and scratch.
 
Gotta say I picked up a recon3d and loving the amplified headset jack, and the switch in the control panel so I don't have to switch up inputs between my studio speakers and headphones all the time. Quality is better than a lot of people are saying as far as output imo. The amplified headset jack is a nice bump up from my old x-fi.
 
If you already have the titanium HD, I would definitely just keep that. :)

Don't compare that trash to Daniel K's work again. :p

Seriously though read a PAX change log they don't actually fix anything. Its mostly just tweaks to the sound quality that sounds good to the author.

I really wish that Daniel K had a driver for the Titanium HD. His tweaks for x64 compatibility should have fixed the issues that I had been having.
