Hello,

Like everyone else with the new intel core 2s i want to overclock. Right now i have a e6600 on a intel mobo(975XBX). The knowledge of overclocking is deeply embedded in my mind over the years of doing it, But I always have problems knowing the maximum temp for CPUs. As of now i have my e6600 OCed to 2.6ghz which I know is a small point to which this thing can achieve. Problem is iam still using the lame stock cooler and under full load my temp reads 59-60c. When idle it sits at 35c.

So basicly what's the maximum temp for these new intels?
 
Well i got my clock up to 3.1 ghz but load temps are pretty high, 63c. Iam starting to think though that there might be a sensor problem when detecting the temps. When running folding and prime95 at the same time to get 100% load, as soon as i end the programs my temperture falls extremely fast, ie: 60c right down to 42c in about 2-4 seconds. Anyone else notice this? :confused:
 
the temp drop is normal. how are you getting that 59-60 number? if its coretemp, than you're ok. otherwise, its a bit hot. did you try dropping the voltage?
 
Yeah iam using a bunch of progs including coretemp. In terms of voltages everything is stock.

especially when ur torturing ur cores. dont worry your temps are just fine. if u hit 70 underload be worried but if ur not hitting that then ur just fine. dont let people scare u with there claims of 65 being too hot. and remember, if ur temps are that hot while under intense load, they will be much cooler in normal use. and the quick drop in those temps sounds right considering ur no longer stressing the hell out of them.

try dropping the voltage down by a .1 or so...you should get some nice temp drops
 
Not sure if i can do that, i noticed compared to the s939 boards the intel boards don't have to many BIOs options. Right now my volts sit at 1.29, thats as far as i can go, going backwards.

Got my cpu clocked at 3.0 ghz, under full load so far my "coretemp" prog is reading 61c..its only been running for 30 minutes.

i wouldnt worry about that temp. even tho its only been thirty minutes, thirty minutes is about the time it takes for the high temp to level off. so you really wont see anything higher than that temp other than maybe another 1-2C. You've got a kickass overclock. Don't worry too much about your temps. As i said, remember, that temp is under absolute worst conditions i.e. stress test.
