I may soon be in the market for a new switch for use at home. Now this should only be a WIRED gigabit switch, no wireless at all in fact. 12 ports is enough however here in the past few weeks I've been experiencing occasional dropouts of network connectivity. Having troubleshot the router and modem and my computers, the switch is the only thing left and the only culprit which would be causing this across multiple workstations.

Zyxel GS1910 or GS1920 are great choices if you want a managed one which also is much easier to troubleshoot.

I got a Netgear gs724tv3 for like 160$ off ebay. 24 gig ports and a managed switch. It's ok not a fan of the web ui, but it works and does it's job for cheap.

Like others have said if unmanaged you can use almost anything as long as it has enough ports. I have never noticed any performance difference between home switches of many brands.

The Zyxel GS1910-24 are about just as expensive off Newegg and they have a good WebUI :)
