I am out of touch on the latest and greatest. I need primarily a Blu-Ray drive (desktop) to read. I saw a 12x lite-on on newegg for $59 and a burner for $79. From looking at the specs, might as well spend the extra $20. But I want a good one, any suggestions?

It really doesn't matter which one you get to be honest. Just get one from a reputable manufacturer and you'll be good to go.

Do note that the software needed to play Bluray movies on your computer is rather expensive.

Yeah, this is going in my home server anyway, so not really watching them on that box. Thanks.

I have 3 Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP in my HTPC since I can't find a blu-ray five disc changer anywhere. They work great with the right software, which wasn't exactly cheap in ArcSofts TotalMedia Theatre 5. Amazon has them for $77.99.

I've been using Sony's BDU-X10S for over 4 months now, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. It's a very solid drive. I got it at CompUSA for $99.99, but you can probably get it for a little less on Ebay or elsewhere. I personally don't trust LiteON drives, so I wouldn't recommend them, but my experience with them comes from using some of their DVD drives. I haven't tried any of their BD drives, yet.
