My current system is in sig. I plan to reuse whatever I can.
1) What will you be doing with this PC?
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI
support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
1) What will you be doing with this PC?
- Heavy web (Internet Explorer) based work (Many work resources are cloud based. CRM, Email, etc...). Between work and research I typically have 30+ tabs open during the day. Current system actually seems to struggle with the most with this web based work. Especially the 7970, that gives displayport errors now and then, and well as screen flickering. I'm not sure why 2D work is stressing this card so much, but a GPU upgrade may be needed.
- MS Office Suite - Generally have 7-10 Word, Excel documents and Outlook open during the day. These don't seem to have any impact on current system. At least with Office 2010. I tried upgrade to 2013 and it brought my system to it's knees. So I'm just sticking with 2010 for now, it does what I need.
- Adobe CS5 - Occasionally will fire up InDesign or Photoshop during the day.
- VMware (Typically have 2-3 VM's open concurrently). I currently have 24GB Ram which has been fine, but I wouldn't mind bumping up to 32GB+. I personally like having a block level cache setup, and the more cache the better... I notice the difference when its there.
- Video editing (Adobe Premier) - This is just part time hobby as I work through years of family footage on MiniDV.
- Light gaming. I don't game much and when I do, I almost always game on a single 30" screen. A single 7970 can't push 3x30" and I don't have the patience to deal with crossfire issues.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- I'd like to keep this under $1,500 USD, with an absolute cap of $2,000
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
- California, USA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
- MB, CPU, RAM, possibly GPU
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
- See current system in sig below
6) Will you be overclocking?
- Maybe, but stability is crucial, I can't afford downtime.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
- 3x30" (7680x1600)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
- ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI
support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
- Essential - Stable, fast SATA 6Gb controller. Need something that can handle a Samsung Pro and possibly a 3x256GB Samsung Pro RAID 0 setup down the road. Current controller gives me about half of the Samsung Pro's rated throughput.
- Absolute minimum of 24GB ram support. Support for 32GB+ preferred.
- Essential - hardware acceleration for VMware
- Not interested in crossfire/SLI unless absolutely needed
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
- Win8 Pro x64 license.
