I have an ASUS P5Q mobo which only has 3gb/s SATA - will that be a problem?
 
The Sandforce drives are hard to beat on price, and the new fw fixed all my problems. But you can't go wrong with the M4, ever. Even on Sata II.

Samsung's new 830 series drives are competitive, and the 120GB and up models come with Norton Ghost and Batman Arkam Asylum. That's worth the $30 more the 120 model is over the M4. But you can get an OCZ Solid 3 120gb for $120, which is silly.

Alternatively, you can get Intel X25-M drives on ebay cheap as well. I've had good luck, but YMMV.
 
If you're looking for the cheapest, what capacity are you looking for?
 
the corsair F115 is relatively affordable, works good here
 
are the sata 3 drives backwards compatible with sata 2?
