I'm thinking about building a HTPC and would like some suggestions on some wireless keyboards. How long do the batteries typically last in these keyboards? Any suggestions are welcome.

The Logitech Elite Keyboard is the best wireless board i've used. The batteries are normal AA batteries and aren't the rechargeable kind so i dont know exactly how long they last yet cause i havn't had my MX Duo all that long.

MX duo gets my vote, been running it since october and the battery level is still good on my AA's that came with it.

The keyboard is amazing, very light, very quick, and pretty good response time when typing fast.

Lots of features on it too, and it works with iTunes now!

Seems like battery life wont be too big of an issue. I'll definitely check out that keyboard, thanks for the suggestions.

Logitech MX Duo gets my vote too...

I was a little hesitant to spend the $$$ on it, but now that I have it I feel like it was money well spent.

While my reccomendation should be the MX Duo, as I absolutely love it....for an HTPC, I'm not going to.

I'd look around for one of those keyboards with an integrated mouse or trackball or joystick or something...if you're going to be using it on a couch, it might be a lot easier to have both items there in one piece. (also, get a remote wonder by ATI)

At the contract company I was at, I used the Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo, and I loved it. The comfort duo is a wireless ergonomic keyboard and a cordless optical (not the MX700, sadly) mouse. Worked beautifully for me, and once I get the spare cash, I plan on getting one for my desktop at home.

Just my suggestion, as I know not everyone likes ergonomic keyboards.

if battery life is a concern, get some nickle metal hiydrides (NIMH). they cost about $3 each in most places, but i find they ususally last years before showing any memory effects(probalby not memory effects b/c nimh isn't "supposed" to show memory effects) and can be recharged fairly fast.

for keyboard, the mx dou is expensive, but i have used it it feels nice, its not too heavy. i just stick to getting a longer cord/extention if i need to use my keyboard away from my desk.

For my HTPC I was using a keyboard from newegg that had the joystick pointer in a corner. Very nice. While the MX Duo is a great wireless keyboard - having the pointer integrated int he keyboard is very nice for when sitting on your butt watching the TV.

I just thought about that this morning. I have seen them around, but I don't know if any company specifically sells them? Anyone seen any of these around for decent price? It would be easier than having a separate mouse/keyboard.
