Recommendations for a Good Projector

Does anybody have any recommendations for a good projector? I work for a non-profit, and we really need one for the numerous tradeshows exhibit opportunities that we host and attend.

What we're really in the market for is something with 1024x768 or greater resolution, good brightness, and by a reliable maker. It must be around 1000 dollars, though we don't have to pay tax, so keep that in mind.

I just don't really know that much about projectors, so I thought I'd leave it to the experts:)
 
So you're looking for a 4:3 projector? I only know which 16:9 projectors that are good, sorry. :)
 
Well it can be a 16:9, as long as the res is over 1024x768, and it's around 1000 bucks. I'm really not too particular, I just need to find something b/c we have a pretty big event coming up in 2 weeks where we'll need it.
 
Do you live in the US? If so, I don't know what prices you have on projectors there. I don't know how picky you are on the 1024x768 bit, but...

Popular, low-budget 16:9 LCD projectors in Europe are:

- Panasonic PT-AE500 (16:9, 1280x720)
- Hitachi PJ-TX100 (16:9, 1280x720)
- Sanyo PLV-Z2 (16:9, 1280x720)

You can't go wrong if you pick any of those, they're all HDTV-ready and are the most popular at the moment (there are newer too, like PT-AE700 and PLV-Z3, but they're too expensive for your budget).

As I said, I can't give advice on 4:3 projectors, I have no experience. Personally I use an older model, Panasonic PT-AE100, that does a pretty good job too for my needs (Xbox gaming, DVD watching :p)
 
Yeah, I do live in the US. This projector will mainly be used for giving powerpoint presentations. I'll take a look at the ones you listed and see if I can find them anywhere for cheap.

edit: Argh! Out of my price range. Really looking for something hugging the 1000 dollar "cheap-ass" mark.
 
i think you're gonna have a hard time finding a 1024x768 (XGA) native projector for less than $1000. You're better off just looking for a 800x600 projector as those you can get for about $800 on sale. As for your tax excemption, this does little on online shopping (where you're probably gonna get your best price) as most sites don't have tax anyways. If you want to be constuctive, you can BUILD your own projector XGA projector for sub $500. Just my 2 cents.
