I'm putting together a new A64 San Diego system and wanted a video card recommendation (PCI-E). I'm willing to spend up to $400 on it, but I'm more concerned with maximizing bang for my buck than finding a $399 video card. I use my PC primarily for gaming, and I play CS:S at a very high level so I was thinking I should probably go ATI since they tend to outperform nVidia on Source engine games.
 
well a good bang for the buck card is the x800xl at newegg for 269 or so.
 
at $250 the X800 XL is pretty amazing, i've seen the x850 xt for $450, honestly as far as ATI goes there's not much in between, the x800 xt retails above the x850 at newegg, the x800pro is slower than the XL,. I'd say X800 xl.
 
He probably will if he only plays cs:s :) that game is mostly cpu limited...even at higher res. :)
 
Wait for the Gamers Hardware Guide to come online, make your pick with data from their site. :)
