Hey everyone, I'm building my friend a rig, and I was taking a look at some PSU's. I originally thought to go with the Antec Neopower 480W (because I have it and love it) but it's a little expensive, and I saw the OCZ Modstream 450w which is siginificantly cheaper (about $45), so I was wondering if the OCZ Modstream 450w would be a good power supply to go with. It'll be powering...

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
AMD 64 3200+ Venice S939
1GB Dual Channel Corsair XMS PC3200
Seagate 250GB Sata HD
ATi Connect3D X800XL (PCI-E)

It should be fine, but also look at the new Antec SmartPower II Modular 500W for only $67. ;)

The Neopower is a better solution for a number of reasons the two biggest being It has Active PFC and has 3% load regulation versus 5% on the smart power.

He is trying to save money & yes the NeoPower does have 3% regulation,
but the SP2 500W is much cheaper ($67) & will work just fine, as will the ModStream.

As to Active PFC, who cares? He is in the US & this is not a large scale commerical installation.

Makes a huge difference when you use a battery backup.....which everyone should be doing.

As for saving money he would be better served then to skip all the modulars and get a good conventional.

I use & recommend APC UPS's on everything,
the VA vs. wattage ratings for SOHO are such that Active PFC just doesn't matter,
if the UPS is properly sized, now for a larger installation I agree 100%!

I'm with you & PC P&C on the modulars, however the way Hiper does it might change my mind.

Dave ;)
