TL;DR - Basically it's the title.

More info if you want it:

The usage case is for photography. Specifically to be used on my tether on location machine (15" Macbook Pro Retina) and Desktop heavy grinder setup (27" iMac).

It needs to either be Thunderbolt & USB 3 or just Thunderbolt. It can't be USB 3.0 only. This is because my iMac is a 2011, which doesn't have USB 3. Obviously transfer rates on USB 2 are just much too slow for this application. It does have Thunderbolt though and of course those transfer rates are more than acceptable.

Cost is a factor. I'd go SSD if I could, but it's just out of my price point. I can do $100-$200.

I've checked out the Transcend SJM300

BUFFALO MiniStation Thunderbolt (Out of my price range, and I would say overpriced, but I may be able to find them cheaper on eBay etc).

Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt (and USB 3.0). Also slightly over budget, but can be found for less on eBay... and it's probably the most well known drive, so there are more second hand ones than any other manufacturer.

G-Technology also makes a 1TB drive... but I hear it runs hot and is absurdly overpriced (Close to $200 for a 1TB drive... and anecdotal failure rates are high) Sony also has one, but also really expensive at $270.

I'm also not opposed to buying an enclosure and stuffing my own drive in there, but to the best of my knowledge no one makes one (not even OWC!)

Is there one that I've missed? What's the best bang for my buck?
