I'm building a file server (E8400, Raid card, CDROM, Cheap Graphic Card) with 8*5400 HDD and 1*7200 HDD. I was wondering which PSU to go with. The capacity calculator I used recommended a minimum of 400W. Does this make sense?

The following PSU are currently on sale where I live, which one would you go with?

Seasonic X-560 115$
Corsair HX-750 135$
Seasonic X-750 165$

Thanks!

Save yourself some money and get a Corsair CX430? All those are overkill and a bit of a waste of money for a file server to be honest.

I'd pick the X-560. Of course a much cheaper deal is to get a Antec TP-550, which is on sale for dirt cheap today.

I'm sure there are cheaper options available to you. With a system like that, there is no need for you to buy a 750W PSU or such a high-end unit as a Seasonic X-series PSU.

Are there any decent (ballpark Seasonic/Corsair quality) modular PSUs for this kind of system?

Are you asking for alternatives to seasonic/corsair? Cuz everything mentioned is already modular.

the seasonic x750 should be on sale for $130 at newegg I think. Use coupon code EMCYTZT210 drops it by $40.

The problem is that a 560 watt PSU is overkill for a system with a bunch of spinning disks and integrated video.

I already mentioned the TP-550, which is dirt cheap at $45 today. Even if you don't need the extra power, you ain't getting a better psu for that price.

Uh not that many high quality alternatives for low end modular. Maybe the Seasonic M12-II 520.
