Recommendation for external hdd

I need recommendation for 1TB external hdd, which I plan to use with my desktop for backing up photographs. Essentially I am looking at USB 2/3 drives, which could possible come with folder monitoring software to automatically backup the files updated in select folders, once the external drive is connected.

Of course data safety (in terms of life, rather than encryption) is the most important criteria, hence need something that is quite reliable.
