Okay,
I'm going to be putting together a little server for a small business.

The stats will be...

ECS RS485M-M (Socket AM2)
AMD 3000+ Sempron
2x1GB DDR2
2x80GB SATA HDD
DVD Burner

Everything else will be onboard...

What I was wondering is how big of a PSU I'm going to need, and what PSU you guys would recommend with the recommended power output?

Thanks for any help and ideas.

-Steven

Antec, Corsair, FSP Group, PC Power & Cooling, Seasonic, Enermax, OCZ are all reliable in my book as well, never used XClio myself though.

Seasonic. I've been building all my friend's PCs with them and they are absolutely dead silent and very stable. Only thing more I could ask for is modular cables; not sure if they have any new ones with that yet.

I recommend these power supplies:

XClio 450BL ATX 450W Power Supply - $37.99
XCLIO STABLEPOWER 460W ATX Power Supply - $49.99
Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W PSU - $70
Silverstone SST50EF-Plus 500W PSU - $90
Corsair 520HX 520W PSU - $106
Corsair 620HX 620W PSU - $145

Any of them should be good enough for that system. Though I believe the Corsair PSU may be overkill. LOL!

What strikes me as kind of funny is that you ask for a reliable power supply yet you go with a less than reliable motherboard maker, ECS. Their parts are kind of crappy IMO.

I have two of the TP 550 2.0's in use, one in a server that has Six 300GB Barracuda's, one 120GB Barracuda, 1GB RAM, Cd, Floppy and a 3Ware 9500S-8 RAID controller.

It's been up 100% 24/7 for almost 2 years now without fail.

Those are all overkill, though the 450BL is certainly cheap enough to include. To be honest, it's difficult to recommend a PSU that fits that system; I don't often build systems which are so frugal with power...

I'd go for the 300W FSP unit linked up above [link].

That's a great PSU, but good god is that overpowered. Why on earth does he need a mid-range SLI capable PSU?

Here is a link to the system power consumption (including those high-end GPUs) of a Core 2 Extreme X6800 system. The sempron will undoubtedly use much less power, and that system overall will need a lot less juice than that Enhance unit. A lower spec model Enhance, perhaps a 400W or 350W unit is a more sensible choice.

I'm really shooting towards the Seasonic 330W PSU. I've never had an issue with Seasonic so I think I will go that route. I've been running ECS since my S939 rigs and never had a problem with them. Currently I have the same board installed in three rigs, running non stopped 24/. But anyway thank you all for your advice and suggestions.

Sounds like a solid choice.

Ultra PSU are best and they are cheaper as hell as compare to other PSU companies.

You can get V -Series Ultra 500 watts PSU from Fry for Free AR some times.

Yay, ultra ! Good solid psu's and they're like, a dollar after mir. Go for it!

I also like Seasonic S12's. The S12-330 or 380 will be perfect.

I've got a power hog of a CPU in my PC (An Inhell Presler 930  ) along with a mid-range GPU and two HDDs, and it pulls about 250W max.

OCZ Powerstream 520W running fine and dandy with a pair of undervolted L1A's in there.

One of the stock fans had supah-bad bearing noise though.

This is what I've been using in my low power builds lately. Awesome for the money.

Why on Earth are people recommending 500W and 600W power supplies for this build?

go with the fsp "green" its 80% efficient and has active PFC. Don't buy more power than you need. It's like lighting money with a match.

Because power supplies are best when they are underutilized :)

I'm running a 750W PCP&C. According to my ups & a kill-a-watt, I pull anywhere from 232 to 310 watts. That means, that, my psu only needs to provide 33-40% of it's advertised capabilities. Doing that means that it's less likely to "wear out"

But..
For this rig, I'd really recommend the F.A.R. ultras that have been mentioned, as they are VERY good (no, they aren't PCP&C quality, but they also aren't L&C quality, either) especially for the price.

Because it's getting harder to find a decent 300watter anymore. The Toughpower line starts at 500 if I recall.

I've always had good luck with Sparkles. Really good PSU's, and you can still get 'em at least as low as 350W.
