Hi guys. I'm completely fed up with my Vertex 3 being a pile of shit. Even on the latest firmware it's completely unreliable. I plan to RMA it and move on.

Anyways. I'm looking for an SSD with a capacity over 200gb (or, if price dictates, two smaller/cheaper drives in RAID0), not an astronomical price, completely reliable, and decent performance. I don't need a top of the line $500 drive that reads at 700mb/s. It's going to be used for gaming, so anything in the last few generations should be fine.

Thoughts?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not knowledgeable about the different controllers or any of that, which is why I came here. I bought the Vertex3 right after launch, thanks to reading many reviews about its performance.
 
what is the problem with your vertex 3? are you using it on the native sata 3 gbps ports? the X58 does not have native 6 gbps so don't use the non-intel sata connections.
 
I've been using a Force GT with pretty good success. Corsair's 1.3 firmware back in August fixed most of the problems. The only issue I had with this drive is random BSODs if the drive was at 99%+ capacity. The 1.3.3 firmware seems to have fixed this.

If you do not have SATA 6GB/s to take advantage of these drives then go with the known reliability kings like Intel and Crucial, that are already mentioned.

Problem exists both on the 3gbps ports and on the 6gbps ports that are on their own controller. The drive is just flaky.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into Intel drives a bit.

I have that same drive and it has been awesome for me, no probs at all.

delete any drivers your using and let it run with the default Microsoft drivers. don't use the intel rapid storage technology crap.
 
I've done everything there is to fix this drive. It needs to be RMA'd, and I'm switching manufacturers. I can assure you of the hours I spent trying every fix in the known universe.
 
I just got my Samsung 830 128GB drive. Speeds are solid. Nice drive. But stay away from Sandforce SSD based drives.
