Ok straight to the point on this post.

1.) I need someone to recommend me a res. Im looking in the $40-$50 price range. I also plan on mounting it to the top of my case, so the inlet/outlet will be facing straight down, so I dont want a really 'boxy' resevoir. I was looking at this, but this is my first time using WC, so I don't want to go with something too cheap to be worth it.

2.) Are the non conductive coolants worth the extra money? I'm a paranoid person, and if I do have a leak, I'd want to take as many precautions as possible. Im just asking if anyone has any experience with it.

1) You dont need a resevoir, you could get a T-line and a fillport, and you could even use the new fillport resevoir from Dangerden if you wanted to. Also 40-50$ is a lot of money for a resevoir, it shouldn't be more than 25$ (unless you get the overpriced tube of aluminum that AC sells).

2) You can get a 32oz. bottle of MCT-5 for about 20$. Madshrimps did a write up where they had a leak of a system that had been running MCT-5 for a year. The computer survived just fine so it apparently works as advertised. I guess it is up to you to decide whether the added 15$ or so is worth it.

I am using this Typhoon rez on the top of my Stacker (so it's oriented just as you describe) and it works beautifully.
Bleeding the system takes all of 15-30 seconds.
 
I have systems with both T and rez.. I much prefer the rez setups. Faster bleed, and sorta doubles as a flow indicator, I can see the coolant moving in the rez, and with some rez designes and filled level can hear the coolant dump into the rez. T-lines work, they are simple, and cheap, but I just like my rez systems better.

Jeez...come on! How about you get a CNC lathe and mill and start making them for us at 1/2 price? BTW, the Innovatek ones are even more expensive than AC. :eek:

The overpriced comment referred to the cost of something which its primary function is to hold water and bleed air from the loop. I fully understand the costs of manufacturing something such as the Aquatube, it doesn't mean that I have to agree with the cost/benefit, the same way I bet you all would be appauled at the cost/benefit analysis Ford performed on the Ford Pinto.

(summary : It was cheaper to let people burn and die and pay the precedented 200k per death than to add 11$ to the car to fix the gas tank problem.....engineering ethics project)
 
by the looks of it a self-made rez would be easy to make. i could always do that.
 
Yes, you could even find acrylic tubing, slap some ABS end caps with barbs on and mount it on top of the case. As long as the different plastics would play nice with the glue.

Ive seen acrylic tubing on ebay for pretty cheap, check the ebay stores too.
 
Clear or colored PVC tubing would better.....less chances of it cracking over time. I use plumbers PVC myself, it's a lot cheaper than the clear stuff, like free................ :eek:

heh, maybe thats what I can do with all that PVC pipe that's been sitting in my parents garage. Or I could get around to building my second revised potato cannon to try and get that elusive 200m

You might try some different hobby shops, other than that, I'd have to search around also........... :D
 
Do you have to get it online? I just got mine at Home Depot, the stuff is cheap, you could make like 12 resevoirs for 4$

McMaster.com has 8 foot lengths... not much better than 10, but it's a start.

My first revision is a pneumatic potato cannon :D It is just a very simple one though which uses a ball valve to release the air, hence revision two if I ever get around to it would likely be a piston configuration using a solenoid valve.

The mile distances are with really big cannons, I keep mine no more than a few feet long.

Thanks, but no need to be so rude about it. :rolleyes: I already googled it for about 10min and only found a few places that sold only 10ft+ lengths.

If building something doesn't sound pleasing this sounds similar what you are looking for. It just needs a hole or 2 small holes for the barbs to poke down into the case and screw holes drilled. They also make a smaller version that isn't so deep.
 
Any large metropolitan area has plastic fabrication shops and they almost always have bins of cutoffs/scraps which sell for cheap.
If you can't seem to find any just look in the Yellow Pages for the distributor of "plastic sheet/tube" and ask them who they sell to.

The place I deal with in Denver does aquarium displays, all sorts of custom fab (they even have laser cutting) and sells their scrap @$1.50/lb.
I picked up a 12"x 2 1/2" clear acrylic tube (they had a box of about 50) and some chunks of 1/1/2" Plexi (to machine the endcaps) for a grand total of $7.00.

Now I just need to get off my ass and actually make the damn rez....

You can get 12" lengths of clear acrylic tubing at McMaster.com in about any diameter. The kicker is that in order to use standard PVC endings you need to hit the right sizing. I am going to fab my own external res with white sched. 40 caps on the end - 12"x3-1/2"OD res that should contain around 45ish ounces of coolant. Why that large?.....why not :p

If you go with smaller diameters however you can get off fairly cheaply. Search Acrylic Tubing and go from there. For the adhesive search Acrylic Adhesive. Look under the result that says its 10 pages. On page 3 or 4 you can find a nice self contained marine grade epoxy that can handle acrylic and pvc as well as a whole group of other plastics. The nice part is that it comes in its own dispenser so you dont have to get a 'gun' to use it...or cut it open creating a mess.
 
I made one of these like 3 years ago (made the front page once) and just recently put it out of commission, didn't like the space it was taking up so I picked up a swiftech bayres. If anyone wants the clear pvc end caps, they're more than welcome to them. I also have some acrylic tube that'll fit it. Here's a pic of the bottom clear pvc elbow (bottom left corner):


I put some plastic thing on there instead of the clear acrylic that I have so it would fit in there better but if you want the tube and two ends (one has a hole in the top of it for filling). Let me know if you guys want 'em and we can work something out I'm sure. I can take more pics of the stuff I have later too.
 
Yeah, the res I am making will indeed be rather large but my intent is to mount it externally for easy visual coolant level checks....well that and a lil bit o'bling factor ;)

I originally was going to have a multi-tube smaller setup with 3 verticals but...I lack the tools to effectively machine the parts I needed so I am going with a simple version instead. Really the only tooling I have to do is to drill and tap the holes for the inlet and outlet barbs. Everything else is pretty much a straight 'glue up' and mounting operation. Simple ;)
