no? kinda vague answer dont cha think?

I have given you the same recommendation twice. Neither time was it a Tripplite AVR series.
So no. They aren't comparable models..and no it is not recommended.

ah I see....the one you had recommended was the omnismart and I had linked to the AVR series....why do you dislike the AVR series? also, on the omnismart do you know how bright the LCD is on it? after looking it over the LCD has grown on me but if its going to be this bright blue light shining from the floor then I think i'll have to pass on it.

thanks again for the advice its greatly appreciated.

They have different Topologies.

The AVR is the first topology below the Omnismart is the second IIRC.

LINE INTERACTIVE STEPPED SQUAREWAVE

Your computer is running at standard mains via a small AC Filter under normal circumstances. After a power failure this type of UPS system switches, via a small relay, over to a simple inverter to provide power to allow you to save your open files and shutdown your computer. The system also normally includes a limited AVR (Automatic voltage regulator) which controls incoming mains fluctuations to a small degree.

The backup time is normally short and will depend on the VA rating (see definition above) of the UPS and the amount of power your equipment draws from it. This type of UPS will give you very limited protection against power surges, spikes and sags. Typical backup time = 5 - 10 Minutes maximum. The backup time cannot be extended. Our range is intelligent (RS232) but the automatic shutdown software and serial cable are not supplied as this is seldom required.

This type of UPS System is aimed at the SOHO & small business market and is mainly used when you often experience short power failures but a have a reasonably good mains supply. This type of UPS system is not recommended for critical applications.

Cost : Low

LINE INTERACTIVE PURE SINEWAVE

This type of UPS system will provide backup to enable you to save your work and shutdown your computer after a power failure and is also designed to regulate the output voltage and prevent, to a large degree, any spike, sags and blackouts from reaching your sensitive equipment (ranging from computers and telecommunications systems to computerised instruments).

Once again, the backup time will depend on the VA rating of the UPS (see VA rating definition above) and the amount of power your equipment draws from it. Typical backup time = 5 - 10 Minutes. With the relevant model, the backup time can be extended to several hours. Our range is intelligent (RS232) and comes with automatic shutdown software and serial cable.

Recommended for semi-critical applications and small to medium sized businesses. Only recommended for semi-critical applications if the UPS output is pure sinewave (as line interactive UPS systems are also available in stepped squarewave or modified sinewave).

Cost : Medium

Also the AVR component in the AVR series is not nearly as robust as the AVR component of the Omnismart.

I haven't used the model with the LCD as it is a new feature replacing an older model which i have used. You could always tape something over it....or use a contact paper to dull the LCD.

wow, thanks for all the info. which model did you use? maybe I can find one cheap online or on ebay. if not, then ill just try out the one with the LCD....if its too bright I'll just return it or something...id rather not tape it up since it is displaying some good info on the LCD

Going from memory here so I could be wrong...I think my coastcentral rep said it slotted in and replaced the omnivs 800 we were using.

this one?

if you had to choose would u take ur old one (omnivs800) or the newer one with the LCD?

That is the one. You know it really shouldn't make a huge difference other than I think the omnivs is discountinued already on the other hand the omnivs is actually rated for more up time 6min vs 4min at full load. Personally I would feel comfortable getting the omnivs800 from my reps still.

excellent....the omnivs is a little bit heavier (21 lbs) then the 900LCD (14.5) but like u mentioned its better rated at 6min compared to 4min. it doesnt have the LCD which is okay.

you also say u feel more comfortable getting it from ur reps....u mean purchasing it from them as compared to an e-tailer? if so, would you be able to hook me up with one?

I just reps becasue I work through account reps for all work purchases. An etailer is fine so long as you take the usual precautions when purchasing online. (and the price that page is quoting is about 6 dollars less than my cost on them)

The only time I would say absolutely deal through a rep is when you get really expensive UPS's serviced. If it ever comes to that there is a company called Coastal Business Machines inc that you would want a rep at....but they are done by geographic location so I may or may not be able to help.

ok, thanks.....how would u recommend securemart.com? they have a 6.67 6/month and 7.81 lifetime on resellerratings.com and on pricegrabber its about 4.3 stars (out of 5) lifetime....i think thats pretty descent

I usually just stick with stores I have done business with for a long time.....mainly beause ratings can get affected by a few upset customers pretty badly. If you are comfortable with the risk and the complaints are the usual dumb crap on RR then you could try them...just put it on a CC using a one time number.

One of my preferred etailer vendors is http://www.provantage.com/tripp-lite-omnivs800~7TRPL1EY.htm but their shipping is usually ab it more than other people's.

its only a $7 difference in price between ur vendor and securemart - not terrible. i think ill place my order a little bit later today....thanks again for all ur help and advice. its greatly appreciated!

actually one last question before I buy it

do u think it will be able to support my monitor and computer?

the omnivs is 800VA / 475W

and the omni lcd is 900VA / 475W

or should I go up to the 1000VA models?

It will but your runtime is going to vary based on what you are doing. If the price difference is more than a couple of dollars I would pass on a 1000va

not really concerned about runtime all that much.....usually when the power goes out I shut the thing down immediately. does the UPS have an auto shut down for the computer in the event of a power outage?

It will save and auto shutdown as long set it up the bundled software and connect the USB data cable to the UPS as well.

Quick edit: I just looked and some of the units don't include the cd but direct you to download the software from tripplite.
